Phew…I was JUST about to buy the SPG.

Looks like it's the Cobra Suzuka instead.

It would be intriguing if you could actually buy it if it has been withdrawn.

Some still have it instock. Presumably they'll now be returned.

I'm not quite sure why there is so much angst about the company. They have said the seats aren't safe they are working on a quick resolution and to call them. Not sure what else they should be doing at this stage

They should protect the public from any harm that may be caused by the seats they made and sold, by offering a replacement or refund on all those being used in motorsport (where they accept they don't meet the safety standard and were therefore - in hindsight - incorrectly sold).

The SPG seat is fine , its only the pole position and furious that are affected

On a related but different note, just had an email from DT about a schroth harness recall. Not sure if mine is affected yet though.

Id heard that it was the side mount that was the issue and not the seat itself. I understand that Recaro are working on a new compliant mount and that this will rectify the situation.

Recaro have responded and they will replace my seat. And the fault does lie with the Spg as well, see the link I posted, it said cracks in the seat. I believe the homolugation is active again and the seats after Nov 2014 will comply, obviously be careful who you buy from.. I think one way to know is the older seats like all earlier FIA spec seats date expire month year and the 2015 ones are End year only.

Have they done away with month and year expiry now? That didn't last long. I wonder why?

It's an FIA thing, and the labels are more tamper proof.

So for my side thread, I do have recalled bits in my harness apparently. So will be getting some new bits direct from schroth. Interesting to see what is changed.

Has anyone else had any contact with Recaro over this?

I have a Pole Position SPG seat which according to Recaro I now should not use in competition. They have come back to me and offered me a 15% discount on a new one. What a disgrace! This product that was bought in good faith to do a job and that is less than 5 years old, that can now not do the job and is said to be unsafe - and a mere 15% off a new one?! Not happy with Recaro at all - did anyone else have any luck with them?

Your contract is with the vendor, not the manufacturer. Unfair as it sounds, it is they who are liable.

With regards to Recaro (and assuming for the moment that it is the seat and not the mount which is the cause), then a visible exchange through social media may prompt them to act, although it is less likely when there are so many people in the same position.

I got a new seat free from Recaro. I had bought mine new two years ago from Demon Tweeks who wanted to know nothing and referred me to Recaro. At the time I approached DT I could not find my receipt but in the meantime I did, had paid by CC. As well as the new seat new runners were supplied and I was informed these and no others were FIA approved. The Recaro website spells it all out.

Good news. Also I got my new Schroth harnesses. That was via DT too. I assume as I'd only bought them a month before, DT did all the work.

Very happy with the customer service provided by both DT and Schroth.

What is the issue with schroth?

As far as I can tell the spring in the buckle on the shoulder straps felt much stronger in the new harness than the one it replaced (they only replaced the shoulders). So I assume an incorrect spec or a below-par spring.
