I intend to race 2 cars this year in the CTCRC. An Imp and a droopsnoot Firenza. I currently tow the Firenza with a swb ex RAC Transit which is really good.
I thought I might trade the van for some sort of Luton or box van that I can squeeze the Imp into and tow the bigger Firenza. Anyone know or understand the Regs?
I was trying to avoid having a huge truck sitting on my drive and can do without the maintenance of a bigger vehicle.
Any advice on how to do this or any alternative approach would be welcome.

assuming you have B+E which if you haven't you are almost certainly breaking the law as it is

alternatives
large 4*4 ( lwb defender / RR / disco / Patrol GR /big Landcruiser with 3500kg towing cap NOT a pickup) and a long enough trailer ...

beavertail + current trailer as the imp doesn't weigh much

I have BE....I'm old! The Transit can tow 2 tonnes so the trailer, Firenza and tools etc. fall within this.

Those double trailers cost a fortune and I have nowhere to store such a beast.

Beavertail is certainly an option but where do you put all the gear?

Various options.

A 7.5t twin deck beavertail, there are also lighter than 7.5t options with this with izuzu & ivecos. A 7.5t with a long deck.

Double trailer or a twin deck trailer behind a suitable towing vehicle. Your transit might not be suitable tho, if only 2t. My double trailer is near 1t, your cars are what vx at 900kg? Imp at 600kg? Ideally you want a higher train weight van like an iveco 3.5t at 7t or sprinter 3.5t at 6300 ( tho are some at 5.5 & others at 6.8t it varies)

Beavertail a 3.5 to 7.5t & regular 1 car trailer. If you get an enclosed beaver tail use ur for the imp you'd have tons if room for your stuff.

Other option, measure width of imp & a larger panel van, sprinter lwb etc, are several folks who fit a little racer inside a regular panel van, they just build ramps inside & over the wheel arches, tools in chest at front wheels etc underneath.

Thanks iguana. The bigger van appeals but I wasn't sure on the legals of towing snoot and trailer at circa 1.5 tonnes as well as loaded with Imp and gear.

I dont fancy a great big 7.5 tonne van with air brakes and lorry size mechanicals.

Transit Luton van up to the job do you think?

My understanding is that (assuming all the right licences & trailer capacity) the maximum combined train weight is 8.25t. We use a converted Mercedes Sprinter (ex crisp delivery van) with ramps over the wheel arches as previously mentioned and two behind that.

Yip as mentioned on old licences you can go to 8.25t train weight. Code 107 on licence.

Transits if 3.5t in general are not ace if towing as the train weights are generally low at 5.5t so if van fully loaded then only gives you trailer of 2t to play with, other options as mentioned above give more, up to 3.5t with a 7t train weight.

Be careful tho, if you for example got a larger van say a 5.5t or 6.5t still just a van for most types so no air brakes etc, the train weight can be above your licence categories at 9t or 10t so you would need to get that down rated to 8.25t

I have code 107 on my licence so thats good news.So if i get a 3.5 tonne van rated for a train weight of 5.5 tonnes that should work for me as the snoot and trailer dont amount to 2 tonnes. I just need one that I can squeeze the Imp and gear into.
The imp is 3580mm long and 1530mm wide according to google. Any views on which van. I would rather spend money on race cars and motorbikes than vans but no point in buying something that doesn't do the job.

twin wheel transit so you dont overload the rear axle . legally the driven axle has to carry most weight so front wheel drive not good
