Hi

I am interested in rallying a Porsche 924 after giving up on my 911 project as it would have been just too costly to put a 2.7 engine in kind of defeated the point of some cheapish rallying http://www.pistonheads.com/gAssing/topic.asp?h=0&a...

Looking at eligibility for the Category 4 cars 1981-85 http://hrct.co.uk/msa-category-four-1985-vehicles/ Porsche 924 are not mentioned however http://www.rallye-info.com/carmodel.asp?car=126 shows Walter Röhrl ran a car. Second question the GTS is serious money but can I build a replica, as surely all those Escorts out there aren't genuine RS2000, Mexicos or RS1800 they must be built from parts.

Any thoughts appreciated

For eligibility I would contact Colin re this link : http://www.racrallychamp.org/Events.htm He will put you in touch with the eligibility scrutineer who can advise re your 924, I can’t see a problem with running one though and would be a nice change to see something different.

Building a replica is fine, as far as I know ALL the cars running in this series are replica’s, the real things are too valuable!

It’s a Very good series, great events with a good camaraderie.

Only point I will add is on the finding parts bit, I don't know how tight the rules will be on this but it would be my next biggest concern to bottom out after eligibility (how accurate a replica rather than just something that looks like a GTS). Keeps us posted it will be genuinely interesting to a lot of people to hear how you get on.

Suggest you register on the British Rally Forum too, that's the best place to get technical advise on British Rallying (outside of the official channels). Lots of nutters on there, but some very very knowledgeable people.
