6 months?? The MSA had information out about this last year so people have had well over 12 months. Equally it was introduced into single seaters as mandatory this year so if they didnt see it coming maybe a trip to spec savers as well as Demon Tweeks.
The announcement last year was about circuit racing. The announcement last week was about rallying and speed events. Can you find Specsavers yourself or do you need someone to hold your hand?

1. In my opinion 6 months is unfair on competitors some of whom may have just bought a new hat with no pegs (I know on some you can retrofit HANS).

As as been pointed out about old group 1 cars I cant see why they dont make it mandatory across the board for all cars which are fitted with race belts. This would then only exclude the road going production cars and those which pre-date the seat belt requirements (although I dont see why these should be excluded from having ROPS and belts myself, its call progress and too many people get injured or killed in historics still).
Source please for the 12 month claim??

Rallyists and sprinters/hillclimbers only heard about it last week. Spec savers indeed. rolleyes

For once I agree with this completely.

HANS type devices demonstrably help in a shunt. As the technology of safety develops it's the responsibility of the governing body to watch, learn and apply. They've done that here.

I know it costs more money but motorsport in all of its guises is split into 2 camps - those that have had a proper shunt and those that haven't.

I have never, ever heard about those who have had cause to rely on the safety equipment we all usw to begrudge it a single penny.

Nothing to do with specsavers. It has been on the cards for a long while. All you have to do is look at the motoring press, look at championship regulations (more and more championships were making FHR compulsory). To me it is a bit of a case of some of you burying your heads in the sand.

It's clearly been on the cars for circuit racing. It became mandatory for recent single seaters this year and for all circuit racing next year. That makes sense on the basis of recent deaths that may have been prevented by Hans. There has not been a similar incident in speed events and completely standard road cars are allowed to compete. I can understand the frustration of people who didn't budget for this happening so soon.

Far from having my head in the sand, I've just upgraded my car to one I fit in with a Hans Device knowing that this would come in the next few years. I didn't predict it'd happen next year though. That caught me by surprise, just as it did everyone I've spoken to.
