Just looking for some advise as I am usure about this,

Our regs say we can run 1a or 1b list tyres, does the fact that a tyre is E marked make it compliment to the 1a 1b list ?

They must be listed in the current MSA Blue Book as 1A or 1B

The lists are here:

https://www.msauk.org/assets/196-210commonregulati...

If it's not on it, it's not legal.

If the Regs specify List 1A or List 1B, thee tyres must be on the list and E-marked. Some of the tyres on List 1B in certain compounds are not E-marked so not road legal

This is the problem, it's not as easy to understand than it first seems, not black and white at all ?

I think it waw mostly some Dunlop CR311's, ie the X marked ones were not road legal but blue book listed CR311's in 1B

I'm also about to shell out for some race car tyres that are on list 1b or 1a and I noticed most of the 1b list have an asterisk against the which denotes:

"Tyres marked with an asterisk in Lists may be
removed from the lists with effect from 31 December
2015"

No, but a tyre has to be on the 1A or 1B list if you wish to use it in an MSA sanctioned event that uses these ridiculous lists.

Technically in the UK the tyre only has to be E-marked in order to be sold for road use in the UK.

But if the tyre isnt E-marked and you are using it on the road, it opens up the whole Construction and Use rules which are even harder to understand than the MSA Blue Book, unless the tyre is very blatantly obviously a road tyre with full visible and legal tread.

This is exactly the problem, it's not clearly defined enought !

Construction and use rules are real simple. So long as the tyre is fit for purpose and has a legal tread it's ok.

I ran for years on none e marked tyres having driven Japanese imports, which of course don't use e marked tyres.

It was a relatively recent aditional to the msa list that any tyre used in msa competition using list 1b had to be e marked. This was to stop people from using dunlop cr311 rally tyres in their none e marked versions.
