Are there any races which are for road legal cars?

there used to be a championship in the 1990's called 'road saloons' where a requirement of the regs was that you had to drive your race car to and from the circuit. Then the RAC stopped their tacit support of uplifting cars from private land, so it died a death in 02.

other than that, you can try rallying hehe or there are some sprint and hill climb classes that are for road legal cars.

you could drive to and from various saloon car championships - BARC SE TT for example, and some do do that, but you will always be at a disadvantage in a 50/50 'win the corner' scenario against a driver who can put his damaged car on a trailer and still get home.

I raced my Elise earlier this year, it was my daily driver at the time, but as mentioned above it does make you nervous about mechanical issues. We have a number of competitors that drive to and from CSCC events in their race cars. smile

We've had a road-legal Boxster race in the BRSCC Porsche Championship in Class B.

Most historic class cars are road legal.

Eg Sports cars and Pre 66 touring cars.

Erm... MX5 Mk3's can be competitive in road trim. I have one for sale that just needs headlights.

but you'd have to be mad as a box of frogs to drive any of them further than the mot station and back. most race cars are nasty to drive on the road.

Why would you want to? Road cars are rubbish race cars and eventually you won't get to drive it home because it will be damaged.

Time Attack? That would get you more track time than other against-the-clock events.

You even score points for it at the HSCC

HSCC 70s Road Sports Championship
The 70s Road Sports Championship does exactly what it says on the tin. It is a race series for road-legal production sports cars produced and registered in the 1970s. Some minor modifications to engines and suspension are permitted, but bodyshells must remain standard. For a full list of eligible cars and weights click on 'Weights' in the box below. The result is a huge and varied field, packed with Porsches, Datsuns, MGs and many more marques. Extra Championship points are awarded for cars driven to and from the circuit on the road.
