"Best Racing"?
I think you probably need to define this more...
In terms of "close racing", I would recommend any single make championship with strict modifications. They consistently have the closest lap time and the closest racing, just look at the timesheets. The last race I did for the Clios had a 2s spread between 20+ racers.
If you like building cars and engines (with the associated costs) then CSCC, Roadsports and others are also great, but much larger lap time and speed differentials.
Single make is the only way to go for me. Multi class is just frustrating.I think you probably need to define this more...

I'm going to be racing a Toyota GT86 in 750MC's Roadsports series. Hoping to drum up enough interest to run a standalone series in 2017!
Hope it generates interest. How about developing it to take part in rallying, too? Rallying is crying out for a modern rwd car, and you could run the car in the MSVR / Motorsport News Circuit Rally championship over the winter months, too.
MSV has just introduced the GT86 in to its fleet as it rally experience car. Build the car to similar specs, link up with MSVR (who are helping run the Circuit Rally Championship) and jobs a good 'un, no?
A unique combined Race and Rally GT series, perhaps?

Creventic 24 hour at Silverstone in this....
(still have drives available at very good prices)
.....and maybe some BritCar rounds too.
I know team who used to race in the Creventic 24hrs with one of those (now they run one of the latest spec ones and won their class and overall Creventic 24hr series last year). Let me see if I can pick their brains for you (send me your specs so I can compare likely performance).(still have drives available at very good prices)
