Time Attack - classic / historic class
Discussion
But what can and can't you do within the class? Where is the bit that says "valve material may be changed but they must remain standard size" or "suspension must retain the original mounting points but additional locational devices may be fitted"? (I've made these up but you get the idea). I wonder if it doesn't - when you go fast they move you up?
Well I wouldn't like that. For me, part of the fun of competing is choosing the right car and then the right mods etc to fit within the rules and usually a budget. My ultimate aim is to develop the car to go as fast as possible within a set of constraints. I did this with my previous car and then won my class, rather than being moved up into a class where I would have to do loads more to be competitive, but then if I won I'd have to do more again in the next class so the limiting factor becomes how much you are willing to spend.
No problem with the rest of the format, I'd quite like to have a go, but the above is why I wouldn't do it regularly.

I don't really get Time attack, it seems to entail all of the expense and hassle of proper racing but without the race - you just do a qualifying session and then call it a day?
Think of it as a track day that you can win. Pretty much sums it up.Moving up a class isn't compulsory :0
The organisers would only ask you to do this if you had run away with the championship or were just pot hunting.
There have been several class winners that have competed in the same class the following year, one of the cars that did this will be on the TA stand at Autosport in January, a great chance to have a chat face to face with the organisers.
