At Castle Combe there were 39 cars on the grid in the CCRC Saloons and I believe they said a further 12 on standby. There are 55 registered entrants in total. They only run one grid but I understand there are talks about splitting it (not sure how, Combe runs an incredibly tight schedule as it is)

Do any other series reach those sorts of figures, and are there any other series limited to one 'home' circuit (for those that aren't aware, Castle Combe also have GT, Sports Racing and Formula Ford championships)?

We (BMW Compact Cup) run over capacity at certain circuits. When this happens we break into A B C groups and run three rather than the usual 2 races. Have a look here for our last round at Brands... http://www.bmwracedays.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/20...

Monoposto Racing Club has multiple classes and will usually take two grids per race to accommodate them, except at when using Silverstone GP circuit where they will usually fill a single 54 slot grid and have reserves there who have qualified, waiting for any people to drop out.

North West Sports & Saloons (aka CNC Heads) is usually oversubscribed and runs a reserves list, and has a huge list of registered competitors.

Was going to say that, the MK1 series must have been close to that in the past. Wouldn't surprise me to hear that 750MC have been near in the past. Their Locost and MR2 series used to be very well subscribed, and going back 10 years or so the stock hatch series was the place to be!

The CSCC regularly has full grids in many of its series and has had to split races on a number of occasions to accommodate everyone.

Northern Saloons & Sports Car Championship (NSSCC) have an entry of 40 cars this weekend. BTCC has a full entry this season.

BRSCC Mazda Mk1s had 88 cars entered for the Silverstone GP meeting in 2011, back before the demise of Ma5da.

Now entries are split between the new BRSCC championship and the 750MC championship but they still regularly get entries of over 40 cars.

Remember it well, back then (2010 I believe) they were at Brands the same time as Porsche Club, it seemed to me like they had the entire lower paddock filled up with MX-5s.

We had 40 plus cars at a very wet Snett for our first round which was a very good turn out and much fun was had by all I think even though it was cold and wet. I imagine Silverstone will be similar if that is anything to go on.

Monoposto; having lurked around various championships over the past 30 years currently I reckon this series is very strong and unlikely to change in the coming years. The Paddock is friendly with a car for most wallets and a vast difference in machinery and talent. If you want a to do single seaters you get "lots of bang for yer buck" here.
