Italian Grand Prix Advice

Hi All,
Better half got me tickets for this years Italian GP for my birthday. We have seats on the main straight, they were pretty cheap so time will tell what they will be like.
Anyway, I haven't been to a GP before and am looking for advice on what to see, do, look out for etc other than the race obviously. We are getting to Milan on either the Wednesday or Thursday. I would quite like to walk the track and the old banking (if that's possible)? If you go on the Thursday or earlier is it better for getting a wander around / meeting people or are they pretty strict all the time? Also any advice on where to stay in Milan and travel to the circuit.

We went 2 years ago it was awesome Youll love it
Thursday we worked out where everything was and walked the old track and did the pit walk (Its a must) it was great, Upclose to the drivers, photos and signings, my wife loved it, Practicing pitstops etc etc we didnt realise it would be that good it was awesome.
Friday in for Practicing and walk of the track, Saturday with your Grandstand tickets allows you into the other Grandstands on the Saturday so we went to Parabolica which was great to watch the speeds.
On Race day we got their just before the race and watched everything from our seats,
Sounds like you will be with the Ferrari Supported which will give you an awesome atmosphere, Note at the end of the race they all access the track via one entry point on the pit straight infront of the Grandstand.
We entered there after the race and got sprayed with Champagne from the Podium we were that close,
Was an Awesome Experience, any questions send me a email happy to answer.
Ive done Silverstone and the this really was easily twice as good.

Thanks mate, yeah really looking forward to it. Book F1 is where we got the tickets, they looked ok, reckoned I could wander about during the practice sessions to see them from different parts of the track. Don't think the seats are too far from the podium actually, they are part of the main grandstand but are like the cheap seats in front of it. That's good to know about Thursday. Can you even go to another grandstand for qualifying or is it just for practice you can sit where you like?
We're in those cheap seats too! Ours are Gradinate No.2 I believe they're the bleachers. We're going Friday night, and coming back Sunday night. Going to drive to the park & ride car parks by Stadio Brianteo both days.
It's my first time going to Monza so will be interested to see how this thread progresses.

Take some coverage with you - hat, sun screen, we used a flag as well...flippin' 'eck it was hot!
Plenty of places to get great food all around the track (compared to most other tracks at least).
Milan nearby is a fine city - you will have a great time. One of the top 3 tracks to visit.
There are regular trains to the circuit from Milan central station. All pretty straightforward. Run a search on this site and I am sure you will find a guide to the place.

My only addition to previous years is to see if you an get a good overseas data usage for a mobile. Since they stopped renting the portable TV units, you might be reliant on mobile data to listen to English coverage. I can't remember if 5 live take off their geographical barring for the races, I seem to remember that they do. There might be other ways.
Or just watch it and then watch it again when you get home to find out what actually happened.

Yeah I was wondering about that. To make any sense of what is happening (at least for me anyway) you need to know what tyres they are on, do the big screens show the same data as you get on the TV?The racing isn't always the best, but the atmosphere and passion is truly fantastic.

I don't know to be honest - I have always done General Access and not been near a big screen. I think would be FOM coverage, the same as you see on TV as there is only one master feed (I think). Vaud said:

This is a good piece of advice, however since they stopped renting out Kangaroo TVs (because Bernie wanted them to charge more and give him more money), every man and his dog tries to stream the commentary on their mobile and there simply isn't enough bandwidth, so it buffers so much as to be unlistenable. I don't know if the F1 live timing app is still available, but that was the only way I could follow what was happening last time I was at Monza.HardtopManual said:

That was my fear.Kangaroo TVs were a great loss to the paddock. Thanks Bernie.
Also going to Monza this year with my missus. Liking the suggestions so far!
We have seats on the inside of the parabolica exit/pit entrance. Theres apparently a big TV opposite to help us keep track!
Is there a easy way to watch close to the two lesmos or Ascari during practice? Want to witness the cornering speed. Also, is there any on track action on Thursday or just the pit walk?

We went last year, an absolute must do! We had seats at the 1st chicane in Alta Velocita C, the atmosphere was incredible and the passion from the Tifosi is awesome.
As an alternative to staying in Milan, Bergamo is a nice place and a short train ride away. Can highly recommend www.petronillahotel.com

Easy drive to Monza and Milan central. Monza is pretty buzzing all weekend, on GP day we parked there and walked through the park to the track with all the Tifosi, great atmosphere!
On the Monday we took a drive up to Lake Como for the day which wasn't far.

You can watch from just about anywhere on Friday (quali day is not roaming despite what someone said earlier, it's your own seat or go into GA, grandstand entrances are stewarded and tickets checked on quali and race day). There is a big screen opposite Parabloica Interna grandstand, commentary 50/50 Italian and English. No track action on Thursday but still well worth going just for the atmosphere.We have seats on the inside of the parabolica exit/pit entrance. Bergamo is WAAAAAAY nicer than Milan, especially Citta Alta!
I've been to Monza lots of times and won't go to Milan again
A bit late to this thread but these were some photos from our 2014 visit. We were over the pitlane exit. Like one of the earlier posters, I've been to Silverstone too and thought that Monza was way better. The walk through the park toward the circuit and being able to hear the cars as you get closer was epic.. it's just as well the GP2s are still NA.
It's all starting to come together, our e-tickets have just become available to download from the official website.
We decided to stay near the airport as Friday night we'll be pretty tired after a good 9 hours on the sherbet by the time we arrive in Linate at 10pm. Also Milan isn't one of my favourite places, so seems pointless to stay there. We'll just pick up the shuttle bus to hotel, sleep, breakfast then get the hotel shuttle back to Linate to pick up the car in the morning - actually cheap for the weekend, we've managed to get a Merc SLC from Avis for £65. I guess most use the train.
Will drive up to the Stadio Brianteo park and ride both days and get the coach to the circuit to take up our seats in Gradinate 2e (row G, give us a
) I've read the advice for the bleachers is to take a hat and a cushion!
After qualifying I think we'll head straight back to the hotel, get showered and go and have dinner in Como on Saturday night probably with a few 'The Trip To Italy' moments knowing us - any recommendations? Nothing fancy, just good solid fare.
As an #avgeek I hedged my bets 10 months ago and grabbed 2 avios seats on the day they were released for last flight back on the Sunday. Normally it's 8pm which didn't give us a lot of wiggle time if we wanted to go on the track after the race. In past years BA have moved the flight to a later time, and last week they came up trumps and moved it to 10pm. Apparently it's always full of the team and tv staff so will keep an eye out.
I've booked the hotel for the Sunday night too just so we can go back and have a shower after the race. There are no showers in Linate airport, not even in a lounge and after sitting all day in the sun I'll definitely need one
Really looking forward to it now - with a new baby here, its my first and only time off this year (!)
