Looking at doing a few 40 minute races with a friend (1 car 2 drivers) and the height difference between us both is considerable, such that adding removable padding will not be enough to allow a fixed seat to suit us both with a 1 minute change over.

I'm sure I'm not the first eprson to come accross this problem. Is there a way of having some form of adjustable seat runner that is still MSA (UK races only) compliant?

Thanks

Hi Smiles,

I run a 911 with race seat on the original Porsche runners without problem – please see Blue Book section K regulation 2.2.1:

'....If rails for adjusting the seat are used, they must be those originally supplied with the homologated car or with the seat....'

Likewise we have run a standard BMW rail in our BMW 120d endurance race car and the Honda DC5 sprint / endurance car.

Thanks for the replies. Unfortunately as I am tall if I use the standard runners it will put the seat to high up. Do you think the blue book wording would allow for modification of the original runners to sit them lower? Not sure which way to read it?

It does seem to say runners/seat combo....nothing to do with the floor they're bolted to.

So should be ok modifying that even if it is extreme

Thanks Stevie, now to dig out the old seat runners and see what can be done!

Interesting, I thought that sliding runners were outlawed.

How on earth do you fix a side mount seat to standard runners though? (I've not got to that point yet in my build!)

There may be cheaper options but it can be done:

Very good. But very expensive!

Looks like something like this would do:
http://www.sportseats4u.co.uk/cobra-bmw-e36-m3-sea...

but it would mean base mounting which I guess leaves you sitting a little bit higher up?

I'm really glad the use of sliders IS allowed though. Not sure why I thought it said they weren't.

Not to worry, nobody understands the MSA rules, especially the MSA.

Just to revive this somewhat, is there any difference for Hillclimbing as far as sliding runners go in the Road Going Production type classes?

Road going permits either oe seats and runners or after market ones. The only requirement afaik is that they need to be securely and firmly mounted.
