Forgive the complete newb questions, but i'm struggling to sift through the mire of rules & regs to find what I actually want.

I fancy giving a couple of local speed hillclimbs a go - I understand I need a National B license, and how to go about getting one (And the benefits of hillclimb schools, which I am thinking i'll give a go first), and have just applied to join the local motor club, but...

I already have a weekend toy - A Mk3 Ford Capri, which has had an engine swap to a 2.9 Granada Cossie lump (Plus a variety of Brake/Suspension/etc changes).

From what i've read, am I correct in thinking that this would be Class C3? "Modified Limited Production Cars over 2000cc". It is road-registered, and MOT'd, but obviously not within spec for "Production". Just a little confused with S12.6.2 - "With the exception of any engine fitted to a vehicle complying with 12.1, the engine must be of a make and type produced in at least 1,000 identical units and fitted to a vehicle originally available through the normal commercial channels of a land vehicle manufacturer."

Am I allowed to drive this in a national B event, on a National B license, or is the capacity too high for Nat.B license?

If the answer to both of the above is yes, Am I also correct in thinking that Class C3 requires a roll-cage?

Thanks

A non-race national B license is what you require for B catagory sprints and hillclimbs and is available from the MSA - https://www.msauk.org/Competitors/Competition-Lice...

The class you will compete in is largely down to which championship the rounds you enter are part of. If you go onto the appropriate websites (Midland Speed, SBD Speed, etc,) you will be able to download a copy of the championship regs.

Go and speak to some people at the venues you wish to take part in and have a chat with the people running the event about your car etc. They will be able to advise..

Trying to understand the blue book is even harder than trying to understand UK politics at the minute...and arguably UK politics probably makes more sense !

If the block of the cossie lump is 'externally identifiable' as being the same as a block used in a standard production Mk3 Capri (of any age or spec) then you will be in mod prod.
If not, then you'll be in Sports Libre. In either case, you'll need an approved cage.
To drive a single seat Libre car of over 2 litres capacity I THINK (but don't quote me) that you'd need a non race A license, but not sure if that carries over to engine swapped saloon cars which get lumped into Libre.
As previously mentioned, best to figure out where you'll be running and go and have a word with the competitors & officials to see what their 'take' on your car might be.

Looking at your comments, I think you're almost certainly in C3 "Modified Series Production over 200cc", in which case you definitely need an approved cage fitting.
If you had a standard engine fitted, you'd not be required to fit the cage
