Problem there Mark is that you cannot lighten the cars in the production classes. A BMW 1600 or 2.0 would get murdered in both classes. If you lighten or modify them then you go modified, and you then need at least twice the bhp....

But a BMW class with limited mods woukd really be a cheap close class theoretically!

And a 328 BMW in our events would have to compete against 911 GT3s!!

I hillclimb an MX5 in the Midland Championship. Granted its not the quickest up to 2000cc car out there but as a learning medium, you won't get much better. Its more than fast enough to get you into a decent amount of trouble but not too expensive to fix if you dent it with loads of bits in the breakers.
The joy of them is that there are specific classes for MX5s (The HSA in particular) so in those cases it's not a case of how fast the car is but how fast YOU are.
You just need to be selective in which Championship you elect to run in.

As an aside, I won last years overall Midland B licence Championship and I'm en route to 1st or 2nd this year as well as winning the class, so it must be doing something right :-)
