Stress ECG required for anyone over 45 for any race licence

New this year - rest ECG required for anyone over 40 for an International C licence
...... when did you dream that one up???? I'm 63 & never in my life had an ECG, but have held a race licence continually for the past 25 years!!!
I do beg your pardon. I got it wrong. A stress ECG is required for all international licence applicants over 45, annually. A new requirement this year is a rest ECG is required once every 2 years for international licence applicants under 45.

Otherwise a medical for your first licence then an annual self declaration, until you reach 45, then it's an annual medical.

Honest mistake, and thanks for not jumping down my throat!
That's actually a stress related ECG for an international licence for over 45s every two years, three if you time it right.

They are now.

And frankly, anyone who doesn't wear them is an idiot.
Well that's really friendly isn't it....
I'm sure the orthopaedic surgeon attempting to repair the burn damage to 'your' hands will be very friendly.

I expect the scrutineer turning you away from an event because you don't have flame resistant gloves will be pretty friendly, too.

In the meanwhile, I'll wear the gloves. And take advice where it's offered. You do as you please.

Oh i get it now you mean gloves.... gauntlets had me stumped, i was wondering where the sword and scabbard went....

I've seen people race without glove's I wouldnt do it but its your own skin..

personally I'd recommend some form of neck protection, even if its just a neck brace rather than a hans.. Trustme its worth it Im still paying for physio 10 years later....

Hi Bill,

PM me if you would like me to arrange something for you. I don't know if you followed the Tuscan Challenge last season, .... I coached Danny Winstanley who lives in your area, .... do you know him???

For the record, I wear gauntlets when racing and I think it is a good idea. The intention of my post was not to suggest racing in shorts, flip-flops and a string vest, but the OP asked about costs and people were coming up with estimates of £2000.00 just to get behind the wheel. I'm just suggesting that there are options, not every piece of safety equipment you CAN buy is necessary (for example, I choose not to wear a HANS device as do the vast majority but some would consider that foolish) I was scared away at first by people telling me I needed £10,000 to go racing but if you are enthusiastic, committed and willing to scrounge and find deals that needn't be the case.

I'm still not sure why you're spitting blood, you sound like you're angry with me?

huh?! i've never had my gloves checked at either MSA or FIA races...
Most of time i have them with me when i go to scrut but there have been a couple of times i've forgotten and not been asked for them.

Adam, I think it's a case of someone making rules up that aren't there. It's an MSA recommendation you wear gloves tested to ISO 6940, whatever that may be. I have however seen cases where you're not allowed on track by the assembly marshals until you put gloves on.

It all depends on the championship/series one is participating in.

A HANS device isn’t compulsory unless a particular championship/series says it’s mandatory - and many do.
Gloves and boots are a free choice within certain championships/series, although they shouldn’t be. However if one is making use of an international licence, or even a Nat A in something like the Fun Cup at Spa, then do be aware that the rules are somewhat stricter over there - not only are fireproof gloves and boots mandatory, they (likewise nomex underwear) also have to be in-date.
Here in the UK there are those with specific rules, the factory run Caterham championships for example insist on wrist restraints.
So there aren’t blanket rules as such, but for sure there are many that don't allow trainers....

As flame resistant gloves are only "strongly advised" in the Blue Book I don't think a scrutineer will turn anybody away from an event for not having them!
