Towbars on motorhomes

I'm looking at a '93 coachbuilt motor-home at the moment for towing my Locost based on a Talbot Express.

Unfortunately the chassis rails finish about 4 or 5 foot from the end of the vehicle. Does anybody know of a specialist motor-home towbar centre as this is obviously a more difficult job?

Ordinary tow bar fitters will give you a load of BS about it not being possible. It is possible! I guess there are a few places - you may be able to find someone nearer to you in Suffolk - we've used http://www.watling-towbars.co.uk/motorhome_towbars... near St. Albans.

It was only a 1000mm overhang but I cant see any reason why the bracket they installed cannot be extended that extra bit.

We had a local Blacksmith/Fabricator do ours using angle iron from the chassis rails reaching a point then a plate welded and bolted with the tow hitch on.

This sort of banter is exactly why I like pistonheads.

For years we towed with a Swift konTiki based on the old Talbot front end (F or H reg as I remember). Pulled like a train*, and never let us down. Tow ball was on a Witter extended bar, again no issues. Emptying the chemical toilet was a stty job though.

*A very slow train, that was hard to reverse park

I gave Watling a ring, they really sound like they know what they're talking about. Trouble is it's a four week wait. Still, the sooner I book it the sooner it's done.

The other place is way down south; so is Waltling but at least it doesn't involve the M25...
