750MC Stock Hatch as first racing experience?
Discussion
Having competed successfully in XR challenge for 8 years 3x champion and current 3I champion i can highly recommend you look into it. There are a few arrive and drive cars out there at the moment both XR3I and XR2 cars and always some for sale at varing prices and specs. We now have a good clean driving standards after a few rogue drivers and years but always one of the best atmospheres around. Check out the Ford Racing web site but also our Facebook page too.

Myself and jasonxr2racer have raced in the CSCC Tin Tops in my Escort in XR spec and claimed pole in class C and 7th overall at Oulton in 09. Any questions you may have myself or jasonxr2racer will be happy to help.

As above
I've raced in the XR Championship on and off for 5 seasons now
Always a friendly atmosphere, BBQ's at every meeting and always a friendly paddock. Cloose racing as you would expect
Cars are available to buy
If you need any more info just ask me or Chris above
I may have a full car (XR2) for sale ready to go and only just re-built. I raced it a few weeks ago at Oulton Park in the CSCC Tin Tops class C finishing 5th in class out of 10 behind 160 BHP Fiestas/ Pugs and with only 88 BHP myslef. I also have a mint rolling Fiesta MK2 shell with a bolt in cage fitted and could also supply or fit most bits to get you going.

Thanks for the info guys.
I am looking at the MSV Trackday Trophy Series for next year just to get a flavour for racing and see what it's all about. Depending how that goes, I would then look into something like the XR Championship for the following year, so will be choosing my car carefully this year!!
Thanks all!

You could do a mix of races with the MSV Trackday trophy & CSCC Tin Tops (MSV copied the CSCC format LOL) depending on your location & the respective calendars. CSCC has the advantage of having a 1 hour race at Spa once you have got you National A licence & I think I'm correct in saying that once you are eligible to remove your novice cross then you can't race in MSV any more anyway.

Hadn't thought of that! Although looking through the driver spec's there's a few who have done 10+ races so should be up to National 'A' licence by now!Mike_C said:
...the main things I am looking for are:
- Low cost
- Friendly atmosphere
- Close racing
I had the same criteria and entered www.pbmwc.co.uk - I certainly don't have any regrets. - Low cost

Stock hatch is not all crash and bash and there are some class drivers in it. Id say a £15K front running budget is very inflated its more around 8 or 9 which includes test days at every race weekend.
As for the Crashes, to me it always seemed to be the same people who get lots of damage and the common denominator was the driver. Up the front there is very few accidents, some bumps and rubbing yes but with racing so close you expect that.
Its a good championship but like many others if your budget is limited so will your results.

Hi
Is it specifically tin tops / saloons that the OP is looking at. ? Otherwise there's at least one other championship that really dose fulfill the criteria of Low cost. That's the Locost championship. New cars built for 8k SH cars available for 3k-7k Arrive n drive packages from £500 per race. Full grids with heat and finals ( Heat and final for single entry cost ) running costs from 3.5k. Tight regulations that gives what Autosport have voted the closest racing championship in the Uk more than once. Very good grip to power levels that gives the novice racer the opportunity to gain race experience and learn car control and drafting. Top 15 qualifying within 2 sec race finishes always very close Silverstone 2009 saw first 12 cross the line within 3 sec with close racing throughout the full grid of the field. Televised races on Motors TV. The cars are very simple meaning anyone with basic knowledge and tools can work on them easily only requires one set of tyres per season £200.
And best of all it all falls under the very slick running of the 750MC which gives value for money racing and entry fees and one of the friendliest paddocks around.

Hi Mike,
To second Matts comments about the 750mc, it has to be one of the friendliest, best organised clubs with good value for money racing right from (as budget as any racing can be) stock hatch, mr2, locost, rgb's through formula vee's, 750 and higher budget end formula four and bike sports (plus others)
If I could suggest that it may be a good idea to visit Silverstone w/e August 28th / 29th as it is the 750mc showcase when all the club championships and series are there.
It would give you the ideal opportunity to watch the racing for yourself, and for you to talk to many of the people involved.

Please don't read too much in the negative commments about stock hatch. Yes there are incidents (most seem to include the same names) - it is however very competitive. The 750mc is a good club and generally friendly I do understand some of the comments about regarding new younger drivers and being the wrong side of 40 I relate but times move on!
Next year there will be class B races that should enable XR2's etc to be competitve and I'm hopeful the grid will be full of people like myself racing on a shoestring for fun at the weekend
As far as budgets - allow for about £2k on entry fees for the 14 races, testing will obviously add approx £200 per day (common to all series though)
