I'm at Brands now, and the MR2s have given us some great racing. There's been a bad accident though - hope the drivers are ok.

Horrid crash, I saw it from Druids. I've seen the photo sequence and it's scary stuff. Amazed a car managed to get into the spectator area, although I understand none were hurt.

I'm aware one driver was taken to hospital, doesn't anyone have any news? Hope he's ok.

I was busy in our garage at the time, so missed it. I saw the aftermath though and it raised a lot if concern about the drivers.

What shocked me was that during the next race there were children stood in the area entered by the car, next to signs forbidding standing, and nobody did anything about it. I hear the MSA visited to inspect things, so there possibly may be some changes to that area in the future.

I saw the pictures of the fence that was taken down, it was a freak accident, but I've always wondered about that gate area. Also photographers often stand there for the start etc

Huge crash at brands hatch this afternoon (hope it wasn't one of you guys !!!)
3 cars made contact going into paddock hill one managed to get out of trouble a red car seemed to spin nose - tail - nose - tail - nose - tail - nose - tail along the catch fencing. yikes

The other poor guy went through 2 fences and landed upside down almost in the paddock.
He took out a massive post where, if you where standing where you queue to do the pit lane walk, on some race meetings,........
i'll leave that bit to your imagination. yikesyikes

It took the medical team about 30 minutes to get the guy out of his car.
i did see him wave as he was taken to the ambulance. clap - bowbow

I am sorting through photos (none of the crash i'm afraid, but i do have a few of the aftermath.
i'll try and post them soon.

Best wishes and a speedy recovery to the guy involved.

The entry to Paddock. One car cleared the fence where the access road crosses.

Coming off the Brabham Straight to Paddock, at the very end, two rivals touched, and hit the outside metal barrier at full chat, they both rode up the barrier, launched into the air, one rolling after nurfing the end of the tyrewall (the front was totally squashed back to the window, driver ok) and the other car smashed through the catch fence, and landed in the public area just near the Kentagon on its roof. He was taken to hospital.

I've heard there is previous history between these two, I hope this didn't cause the crash....

Very freak accident and I'm amazed no one was killed. If that had be a BTCC day, there almost certainly would of been casualties.

I don't think anybody was there at that moment, but i did hear of people who had walked through that bit a few minutes earlier !!

Also heard someone mention that "they where NOT the best of friends".

I have no evidence to support this, but I was told they've collided before, with one of the cars being written off.

If they are dealing with their problems on track, they shouldn't be allowed to race IMO.

Not sure that any past incidents have any relevance here. I saw the incident live and the view of those and other 'neutrals' that saw it was that this was a deeply unfortunate racing accident with particularly savage consequences. Thankfully, the damage done to people (rather than cars and MSV property) was relatively small considering the severity of the incident.

i was about 10 metres away in the grandstand and it was just an accident. horrendous one at that. contact started as they were three abreast.

i am still a bit in shock by it as bgatovs car came right through the public area. miracle nobody was hurt. i am still amazed how this could happen. i know accidents will always happen but you dont expect spectators to be at risk like that..

That second video is amazing/horrifying footage. If you watch it frame by frame (well, as much as you can on youtube) then it looks like the crash barrier deforms and becomes a take-off ramp. The black car was incredibly lucky not to collect anything really solid on the way through, but what is even more fortunate is that nobody was in that public area.

I think MSV will be forced to make modifications to the guard rail as a result.

Hope both drivers make a rapid recovery.

Methinks, there was a time (before BTCC, obviously) when the result of deliberately door-handling each other into a corner, and equally deliberately making contact, wasn't described as a 'racing accident'.

Am I missing something?
