Digital Dash interface
Discussion
Looking at the digital dashboards they all seem to require their own sensors rather than taking a feed from the ECU via CAN-BUS.
AIM seem to be the only one that can access the ECU but they don't include the GM ECU in their list of units they can take a feed from.
Has anybody fitted an AIM dash using the GM ECU feed?

yes its possible, the Gm ecu is fine to operate the AIM unit and it works well. You will need to sort out a speed signal though.
you will also need a different GM oil pressure sender as the one fitted will not be compatible with the GM motorsport loom, you will also need to make up an oil pressure outlet for the sender.
I think the AIM worked better than the Stack, the Stack also required a lot of expensive senders. Im not sure on the price difference

My biggest problem with AIM is my ability to read the thing without glasses.
I have now got to the stage where I need glasses to read stuff at about full arm's length. I think I could see a dial well enough, but to read all those little digital readouts on an AIM may not be possible.
Talking to SPA yesterday, they supply all the sensors (which repeat a lot of the GM one's) their dash needs because they would need to be able to "read" the output from the ECU, and with each manufacturer "using a different language" from their ECU and reluctant to supply a "translation" it is difficult to take their info and use it.
I would love some form of lap timing but I think I will go "stand-alone" maybe with a camera systemfor lap info.

Hi
Have a look at hmdash.com, I am making an interface specifically for the GM loom for my car....

Gareth - What is the dash panel used there and is there any more info on it's potential application for a car inc available LED lights (for indicators, etc) and channels?Have a look at hmdash.com, I am making an interface specifically for the GM loom for my car....

My current dash of preference is the Race Tech Dash2. It has all the necessary IVA lights built in, all the input channels needed an off-the-shelf OBD-CAN connector to interface with the GM LS ECU and can be upgraded with a data logger. I was planning on using an AIM to start with, but the Race Tech's IVA compliance edged it out in the end. I'd be interested in comparing it to the HMDash still.....

I've got a Racepack IQ3. It also has communications available through canbus.
It has a lead that directly plugs into my Haltech ECU.
They got lot's of other interfaces to other ECU's.
I'm combining it with an Isis multiplex system, so any signal can be read and put on the display.
i admit, I've gone a bit wild with it.

Hi
The dash is graphical, i.e. we can display what we want in whatever size we want.
It has a CAN interface as well as the usual main beam, indicators, MIL, etc etc
If you have found a solution then I suggest that you use that because my dash is complete, but still young in its life cycle.
It has basic data logging and track mapping.
