Oh so eloquently put Spatz! You have hit the nail squarely on the head! Thanks!

In actual fact, the TT box I have was built with many changes and shipped by CMS just before they introduced re-machining the slave mount hole to accept a different std GT2 slave, so I had a problem!
How the hell was I going to mount anything but the humungously large TT assisted slave!

I was lucky in a way because I came across an adaptor on ebay, which used the original mount points but allowed it to ‘cradle’ a standard GT2 slave- on subsequent searches, I found no more…
I was informed by ‘those-who-know’ just recently that this adaptor is in fact an EVOMS aluminium bracket.

see here....

The next challenge was that the push-rod was not long enough, so I got our northern friends AB to make an adjustable extension.
That was probably 2 years ago, and my plan was to use the vacuum assist unit I picked up back in 2007.

That plan did not quite work as expected. I suspect the travel in the vacuum unit is not long enough or something, so ditched that, reconnected , bled and then found out how ridiculously heavy the clutch really was!

I have driven many cars, trucks, JCBs etc. in my long years, including 50’s and 60’s race cars, but NOTHING comes anywhere near the pressure needed to actuate the clutch!

And so, I have just purchased a .625 Master to see what effect that has. If too long a throw, I will try the .70. Next if still not happy I might try AB’s offer of a pedal mod.

…unless someone has a more cunning plan….?

Oh, and I have just cut a hole from the floor below the pedals and despite wearing goggles, managed to fill my eyes with aluminium dust when they got knocked off – silly me!

cheers

Ooops, sorry Keith, I've not had chance (make that my brain forgets to remind me when I get home!) to get in the garage and take pics of my setup. I've made a note on the back of my hand and I'll do so this evening!

It sounds like you probably have the same slave as me, albeit mounted / adapted differently. I'll take some pics and try to zoom in on any PNs.

Don't worry Mark - thanks all the same - I managed to confirm my slave was an OEM GT2 version, same I think as what AB use.

However - my clutch is still rediculous - perhaps the clutch-plate supplied was of the tractor/ JCB variety! so I need a pedal at least 3 ft long! biggrin

you are a such a pussy, big motor, weak legs...............you can only reduce the force by increasing the travel (meaning a different master cylinder)
Probably also will require a different pedal setup, at least using the hole closest to the chassis !
I have not been driving my car yet, but maybe I will have to do the same ! After bleeding the clutch I got a good idea of how heavy the clutch is......it is.

Just for clarity and seeing as I set myself a reminder to do so for once, here's some pics of my Twin Turbo 'box with GT2 slave cyl... You can see the original turbo slave hole is unused and the GT2 slave is mounted at the point in casting where the a GT2/3 'box would have had the slave mounted. Maybe a DIY job if you've got the right hole cutter & tap sets?

How far down the pedal travel does the clutch disengage drive? If it is near the top then a smaller master cylinder can be used reducing the effort.
If it is almost at the bottom of the pedal travel then you can't afford to make it smaller or you will not be able to engage gears. In this case I think your only option is a servo.

Yes Spatz: I do still like Pussy.... and it does make my legs weak, after wangling my big motor!!

UPDATE:

After cutting a hole on my floor to access the pedals and fabricating a removable plate last weekend, I replaced the 3/4 master to a .625 or whatever it is.

What a difference!

Yes- the clutch is heavy-ish, but perfectly manageable and acceptable. It releases the clutch around 50-60% of the throw of the pedal, even without moving the pivot hole to the back one - ie retaining the middle pivot hole for the pedal.

So, I am a very happy bunny - a mod that is rather worth while for those having similar problems!

Cripes! - I am in danger of having a pile of metal that actually moves under it's own steam very soon!
