The engine used for the world record isn't fragile at all. Its has a normal 10:1 compression ratio and if it was used as a road car with a a normal schedule of track days per year with regular oil/filter changes it would last a long time, several years before needing an approx £1000 freshen up. If it was used as a road use engine only it would last the same as any normal production car engine. Speak to Gail at American Speed if you want any more engine info. I asked him the same question before ordering mine.

( . . . ) so presumably will require a similarly expansive budget to keep it running?

Read: 20K . . .

Brrrrrrrr . . .

Why would you want to suggest 20K?

Your comparison is a race spec 1300hp blown engine.
Get real.
Are we supposed to be impressed by the spec and links.

Stealing a truely impressive thread is not on.

Yep - what a crap response, this is about real road-legal PRODUCTION cars ie you can buy a new Ultima in this spec from the factory.....

Some BullCrap made up stats about a car that doesn't exist (and quoting stupid Nurburgring times for a car based in Florida??????) is just childs play.

What a dis-respectful waste of time from Dinkel.

Was the viper nut equally upset with the Caterham that Ultima stole the record from? Ha. I didn't know Hennesy was selling cars that they designed themselves? I live 3 hours from them and as far as I know they are primarily engine tuners.

P.S. Remind your friend that those several hundred tuner cars have to be able to also turn right or left and run street tires. Ha.
p.p.s If you really want to make him mad, then pull out Sport Compact Car's issue where Jay's car whipped a highly tuned viper www.ultimav12.ca/
Cheers!

Anyone any idea if/when Guinness is going to ratify this ?

I've got some Viper nut here saying Ultima is a tuner car and not production and hundreds of tuner cars will spank the Ultima silly - Hennesy Viper 1000TT was mentioned.

Why is it when a car does something really cool everyone and their mother comes in waving their tackle around saying now much more impressive their car would be if only they dropped $45k in upgrades on it ?

What is funny is the number of people who can really expliot the limits on cars like these.

*Goes back to driving his underpowered M3 and awaits the house purchase to enable Ultima lovin*

Wait a minute, that Viper mentioned on here was the one entered into the 2004 Ultimate Street Car Challenge. Jay Esterer's Ultima GTR spanked it in the overall ranking...

That Viper had about 830 hp or so when it entered into the contest. Now, he has 1300 hp? I'm sure Spectrum Racing's 1300 hp GTR can spank that too... Heh!

Holdon, question... How the hell will his Viper put 1300 hp on the ground without using slicks? In the USCC challenge, his car with 800+ hp was having traction problem already and it was using slicks.

So assuming if he used road legal street tires, there's no way his Viper could beat this world record breaking, GTR.

Gotta love the theorists, not the realists lol.

6 40 at the 'Ring in a Viper? Yeah ok. Would it even last a lap?

Always amazes me the ego's Viper owners have and how they're driving (apparently) the fastest thing on the road, whatever the spec. Then they turn up for these "performance showdowns" and get absolutely nowhere.

Stunning result G Man, fantastic to see someoe giving Caterham 2 fingers. Bet they're devastated - that seems to be Caterhams raison d'etre at the mo lol.

I know I am biased I own the car, but who else has ever broke a record, shot three videos who Pistonheaders to see first, published the actual data sheet of the run for everyone to see and disect.

This was not done by a car turning up on a trailer, my car was driven to the circuit and driven back the same way !!
It has done 6000 road miles on this engine ...
This record was done at an old airfield not some super sticky tarmac !! It is repeatable on the road ..

My car had 640 bhp dyno'd using a 377ci engine with no turbo/blowers or nitrous.

PS you can buy an identical one from a factory

G Man,

What's it like pottering around with that tall 1st gear? I've always thought that my Noble's 1st is far too short, but I can see quite where to pitch it is a bit of a game...for road use anyway.

Cheers

Remember the average Ultima has around 200ftlbs torque more than a Noble to pull it through the gear.
I went out in Gmans Ultima this week and its virtually like a normal production car in traffic.

DanH asked for the running cost not the purchase price.
Wondered why you posted 20K.

Whilst all this talk about "I know a car with X number of BHP that should post Y number of seconds to do Z MPH" is all well and good. This thread is about a car with a known output doing a known time upto a known speed! No guess work, no theories and definately no BULL.

When any car manages to prove it's performance, by all means post it hear and soak up the congrats. Please don't make yourself look silly by chucking a load of theory and rethoric around. We can all go fast stood in the bar.
