RE: Ultima World Record!
Discussion
Dinkel - how about an Ultima with a TVR Speed 12 engine ?
Anyway, this reinforces the fact that the Ultima is the daddy of performance cars.
Caterham are going to have to supercharge or nitrous the R500 Evo to get the record back!
I think that calling an Ultima a "Supercar" is a huge insult as they are not overpriced, overcomplicated and overweight like "proper" supercars

Could UK provide a decent lump to make this record all British?
A wildcat 6 litre Rover V8 mated to a hewland DG300 should be capable of matching that, so yes, a fully UK sourced car could be built to take the record.
4.8 Litre Twin Turbo Project Engine should do the job . . .

ye, u r right. but still if gm haven't told buick v8 to rover, the one u r talking about would never exist. anyway, i must agree with RichardD, if u really want an all british record, tvr's engine should be the first choice. but not the v12, though.(just too big for ultima) maybe, a supercharged speed six?
Christ on a bike !!
I did 0-100 in 10.2 at Bruntingthrope last month in my Sport350 and I was pleased as punch with that ! But back to zero again in the same time, staggering !!!

The wildcat 6 litre V8 is a completely new block casting retaining the external dimensions of the Rover V8, the head castings are also unique being a clean sheet of paper design, so you could say it has no Buick based components and is 100% British, although the normal Rover V8 block has been through so many redesigns it's far removed from the original Buick item anyway. Of course it depends how far you want to take this, there are very few cars if any with components sourced from just one country.
It would be interesting to see if a higher power turbo engine would actually be better than a lower power NA in this aplication, the MGX engine probably wouldnt be because it has a relatively high rpm range where power is higher than in NA form. It would probably work better for this with smaller turbo's just upping power by a couple of hundred BHP rather than the 450BHP extra that was produced for that aplication. The problem with adding the turbo's is the extra weight of the turbo's and intercoolers, this is where a big capacity NA V8 really holds its own, being light and easy to package with a great flat torque curve to play with and no heat management issues associated with turbos.
Supercharging would be a nice solution for this type of record attempt.
