Just enjoyed a run out in the country to see a man about a new swirl pot for next year, to rid me of my fueling problems wink. We were just rounding a bend at about 35-40 when I spotted (too late) two grey bricks in the middle of my carraige that had nodoubt fallen off some tts truck, no chance of taking any avoiding action as there was oncoming traffic, so went over them weeping. My wife didn't see them so it was a bit of a shock for her when they bounced their way down her side of the car smashing into the seat mounting bolts and sending shock waves up her spine yikesmad they did make a hellofa noise...anyway this was the result.

Looks like a new splitter as one of the bricks hit directly under the mounting point.

Splitter not even 4 months old, and certainly hardly any miles done since I got the car back in May mad
Still as my wife said it could have been worse, they could taken a tyre out or the splitter could have scooped them up into the rad or smashed the the front of the clip....

($hit happens)

Graham: Sorry to see your accident but you are right, it could have been a lot worse. When we had our North American Ultima meetings a few years ago, a participant driving down to the event picked up a truck tire carcess and threw up from the back tire, it took out most of one side of the rear fiberglass. You just can't be careful enough about seeing what's on the road in front of you in a car this low. But even with anyones best efforts things will happen. Lee

Hi Graham

Carp news bud.
Will you fix it yourself or get SS to do it?
If you do it yourself then an 8'x4' sheet of the trailer flooring is only about £33 +Vat but you would need to wrap it if you want to keep the cf look. You can use the old splitter as a pattern for the stud holes.

Having said all that I suspect you will be on the phone to SS tomorrow!

thats terrible news mate.. although for a horrible moment there I thought I was going to see the brick having gone over the car rather than under!!!!!

You know were I am if you want to come round and make another... maybe we should consider a mould and make it purely in carbon with a carbon kevlar back? then if it breaks again just a matter of pulling another from the mould?

Well that's the point of a sacrificial splitter I spose, imagine if it had been an expensive full carbon job.
Ply and wrap is the sensible way IMO unless of course there's a multi buy of carbon ones in the offing at reasonable cost wink

No idea of the costs on the Ultima for a splitter, but was used to replacing them on my 911 GT3, as even bumpy roads or speed humps destroyed them. As said I think you have to expect these items to get damaged, although feel your pain on this one frown

Yep the splitter did its job, just would've liked for it not to have happened this soon! A bit heartbreaking really as it took the painter three days to get all the pinholes out and get it to a fantastic finish.
Not sure what route I'm going to take at the moment, same again, just wood painted black or mould?..
FC
My splitter is different as it forms the floor under the radiator, so it's a lot deeper.

Titanium?
tongue out

Even better for speed bumps, add some castors under the front lip of the splitter (I am thinking about it!)! - honest, you will never ground again! - but you might fly!

Ooooo that must hurt.
Should have hit the pneumatic button quicker and simply squashed it into the ground.
I feel your pain though Graham.
Catch up soon. In the sun at the moment.
