You are probably right but at what point does the "new" body become "the same flavour" and we are at the same point all over again, The maker of such a body will want need a quick return on its capital outlay and still see a market for the body a fair way into the future.
Yes I'd like a "rebellionesque" look for my car (new LMP style?) but then it would need to not lose its ... "practicality hehe "... as a road vehicle, I'd stump up for a carbon fibre shell as well so long as there was a significant weight loss.
As the times change so do the bodies, it's already happened. For a company to draw a line in the sand and say that's it, well…. it's like a lumberjack not sharpening his ax.

Yes, only in 4d wrap.

ETS: you wouldn't have to wear your baseball cap on sideways to drive that lick

that car was done in the original 3m dynnoc 3m stuff which now isnt recommended for car exterior use the new stuff looks virtually identical perhaps a slightly tighter weave pattern with slightly more glossy finish, but same texture etc...
I am only doing stripes in vinyl rather than paint and wouldnt do a full wrap but I wont be using carbon myself, but have seen it used and in the right application it does look quite good.

Tell me about it!
I renewed my splitter last year, covered it in 3m DI-NOC, didn't last the summer without bubbling and un-peeling frown
I thought about a carbon splitter but big sheets run at about £280 for a 600mm x 1800mm x3mm sheet which is a lot for something as sacrificial as a splitter.
I'll probably stick with plywood and some "other" wrap.

I use a 12mm water resistant timber sheet with a sealed surface (can't remember the name) at a cost of about £40 per sheet of 2400mm x 1200mm.

The sealed surface will take two pack paint and polish to a painted g/f like finish (satin black in my case).

These ply sheets are used in the manufacture of trailers so can withstand the weather.

try the "3m 1080 series -CF12 carbon fibre black" that is the wrap I was calling the newer 4d (might not be 4d though as I may have just accidentally picked up the 4d name from talking to someone at a wrap supplier) which is 3m replacement for the DINOC for automotive use.

Is this the stuff that's sort of dimpled one side, flat on the other side and looks "resin infused"?

I agree for the 3m 1080 series -CF12 carbon fibre black. More resistant to scratches and wear. It still is scratchable though...

I havent seen a wrap yet that wont scratch, but the matt black is absolutely hopeless, you certainly wouldnt even be able to wash the car without scratching the hell out of it.

Yep, phenolic faced ply, but no dimples!

Shame, obviously can't deviate off topic without blowing a gasket.
Good job we all know this forum is informal otherwise there'd be no contributors wink
