Fellow Ultima fans...

Many years I have been a faithful and avid supporter of PH, and try to do my best in assisting others as well as myself by posting here as an Ultima builder/owner and other threads...

Advertising is getting more and more on this site... Fine! I say, provided it is not overly prolific, and does not interfere with the enjoyment of posting and reading.. BUT.... ranting

This morning after a few days away, I log in and am greeted with a MASSIVE dropdown RED Santander ad!!!!
It pushed the page down, and Shouted... SPAM/ PHISHING/ VIRUS! eek
It took a few secs for me to realise what it was!

What on earth are the mods ans site owners doing or thinking? !!!! shout You, my lads/ ladesses are totally ruining this site and what it represents to us owners... in the pursuit of extra cash!! There HAS to be balance! ...but you are in danger of tipping this over the edge!

I for one, after so many years am seriously considering voting with my feet, which will be sad!

ABSOLUTELY RIDICULOUS! furious

Anyone else feel strongly like this? A petition maybe!

If this gets taken off or moved... it will say it all!

Yes, I tend to agree.
This won't be down to the mods, it will be down to the site owners, who should expect some income from such a successful site.
As you say a careful balance needs to be maintained, at the moment that balance is tipped way in favour of the advertiser.

Guys, I can take a bit of advertising, as I said! We all know that the owners want to make it a money spinner for them. I accept that, fair enough... BUT the recent elevation and glaring 'in yer face' antics from them is alienating me (and I suspect others) and is likely to be counter productive in the long run!

I mentioned mods, and yes, I know they are not responsible, however, I do hope, if enough users complain, that they make the owners aware of the ill-feeling being generated due to there actions.

Well, I have resorted to an adblocker. Didn't want to, but I don't hold out much hope that the Owners would see sense.

...and now I see absolutely no ads! Great! (except that I am sure there is a downside somewhere...)

Same here. I use Adblock Plus and apart from the occasional ad at the top of a page, I don't see other ads at all.

Mobile site? I didn't know PH had such an option. If so where is it. I have checked in the past and have never found anything, which is a great pity where people like to check out things on the run.

Adblocker is the only way forward for PH, Ads like that are blooding annoying to say the very least.

Late to this so not a lot to add, other than to remind everyone that PH is a commercial site, not some free-for-all owners club.

Unfortunately, that means having the site populated with ads. Haymarket and the PH management team as pretty careful how they do this - but the aren't infallible and, in fairness, the Santander ad was pretty unmissable smile

As said, if you find them intrusive use an AdBlocker (I do smile ) or the mobile site.

Also as pointed out, mods have no control over this - they can merely be the messengers of disgruntled posters wink - however the best place to vent is 'Website Feedback' which is monitored by mods and PH management alike.

Bear in mind this is still a fantastic resource for not only Ultima owners/builders, but for general automotive enthusiasts and even wider interests come to that.

I see a degree of 'shooting onesself in the foot' here.
The site ramps up the level of advertising....everyone uses Adblocker....the rest of the sites advertising is now worthless.

This has been rumbling along in the Website Feedback forum for weeks. It would seem the management don't give a hoot. The intrusive ads are still appearing. (I like many have no problem with the site selling adverts, just keep them as banners or down the side like before)

Steve is right though!

You know, I have been putting up with the irritating blinking/ flashing ads which detract from the purpose of my visit for months, well, years and getting worse...

OK may be I am an old reactionary, but I will tell you and the site owners, that the ridiculous level it has got to now, I would NEVER take notice of an ad, never have, indeed if I was in the market for something, I would go out of my way to find a purchase that WAS NOT advertised in such a manner as on this site, and only based on my research as to efficacy etc.

Perhaps the next level is to have the forum pages 90% devoted to ads, with a slither of space on the far right for forum threads? (Damn! I didn't mean to give them ideas!)

So, counter-productive? probably! Not that the owners would care while the prospective advertisers throw money at them...

I wish I had thought of an adblocker before... it's like when your sprogs insist on starting a fight with each other whining and bickering in the background of a weekend, every damn time you need some quiet time and try to listen to your music! ............... and then you buy and plug in your headphones.......

Ahhhhh - Bliss! cloud9

Except that the advertisers pay regardless and they profile sites based on user visits, not whether they have adblockers installed or not smile

It's what keeps the site going, so I'm afraid we have to put up and shut up (well, you can moan in website feedback if you want wink ).
