I have Mintex 1166 pads and I find that on the road there is not enough bite possibly due to the pads not getting hot enough especially if you are on the motorway.
Are the 1166 pads more suited for the track and if so which are the best pads for road use.

1166 are racing pads and well beyond normal road use.
Even 1155 will be difficult to keep up to temperature.

So what is the consensus on good road pads?

I received some Ferodo DS2500 with my order, so I assume they must be good for the road.

Yes I see these are popular, though I was hoping for some feedback from experience.
I am going to refurb my brakes and Pagid made the pads I preferred on my Noble, it was low speed squeal that was a bit of a problem!
Just wanted a mix of opinions.

I have also been a fan and user of Pagid pads which have never ever let me down even if the more resistant ones do squeak a bit. I need to do a bit of searching to find the corresponding pad size id no and then check what is available in the racing/fast street catalogue.

Replying to my own post with some info.
Having spoken to John & Jill at Performance Braking they have offered the following comments: -
1. Mintex 1166's aren't the best option
2. Mintex 1144's are an option for 'heavy duty road' and 'light track use' and I could fit these for pure road use and refit the1166's to use on the track.
3. Mintex F4R are another option between the 2 above.
4. Having access to all the main suppliers they recommend Padgid pads for Ultima's - RS29's for both track and road use and RS15's for track use only.
I may go for the 1144's for the road and 1166's for the track following up with the RS29's when they are both used up.
The 1144's and 1166's are quite reasonably priced whilst F4R's and both Pagid's are quite pricey.
If any one has had experience with any of the above on both road and track comments would be appreciated.
Jonny's comments would be interesting.

Hi Roj,

We use (and supply) Pagid pads, as they seem to be the best mainstream option out there. Carbon Lorraine do some great products but they are VERY abrasive on discs.

In the Ultima we use RS29's - great from cold and their wear rate is excellent, and they are great on discs, altogether very pleased with them. The cold performance is important, as there are lots of safety cars etc in our races and don't need to start worrying about brake temps at the restart (or indeed the start!).

RS14's are another option, similar performance, (slightly more aggressive), but their wear rate seems noticeably higher.

The Factory are worth a call. I have both their road and track recommended pads.

The track one's make a terrible screech on the road.

The road one's get too hot on track.

Swapping essential for maximum fun in both environments

Thanks for your posts guys.
One thing I forgot to mention is that John from Performance braking advised that if you are interchanging different pads you may need to hand rub the discs down with 60 grit paper between changes as the discs carry some of the brake material and can compromise performance.

So RS29's still the pad of choice performance wise, not a lot change in quite a few years of production,
I guess these products are on the edge of braking tech and currently the only way forward is carbon/ceramic.

RS19 is more disc friendly it seems. Good overall review of the RS range here: http://www.pagidracing.com/fileadmin/pagidracing/c...
