Hi folks,
I've been a long time lurker but I'm approaching the time that it might be right to get an Ultima. I think I would rather buy one 2nd hand at the moment than build, I see a few members build one, live with it and then build another based on what they had learned. Ive build enough random cars that I have faith in my abilities to do so if when the time comes.

Anyway, Im looking around and I would prefer a centre gear shift... How much of a pain is it to do a conversion to a car that has it on the right? Is it more hassle than its worth?

Anyone have an approximate cost, or is there an defacto accepted kit to get, to do this?
Thanks in advance.
Mark.

Depends on gearbox. Some have cable shift anyway which can go anywhere. Some have rod shift, more difficult. I have a G50 00 currently which is rod shift as std but AB have made a cable shift adapter to fit which works pretty good. A well adjusted and fitted right hand rod change is good but if badly done can be a pain!

I bought a right shift car and thought I would need to change it to centre shift to feel comfortable.
Someone then advised me to see how I got on with it rather than change it straight away.
I have done about 500 miles and don't even think about it now.

The gear stick and mount are a little "rudimentary" so I am in the process of changing them in favour of something a little more elegant that also has throw adjustability, enabling very short throw to standard on to long throw for lazy shifting. This one, though not from this particular shop:

Hi , Iv had mine coming up 5 years now , and at 1st I was concerned that I wouldnt get on with right hand shift , or even spoil owning the car , but after a very short while these concerns were totally forgotern , and I found it even added to the sence of occasion of driving the car , and these days its just 2nd nature to shift with my right hand , definately dint condem a good car that feels right just because its R/H shift
