Hopefully collecting my new Ultima GTR this weekend, well if the weather holds out, I don't fancy my first experience of driving the car to be in a downpour!

More photos to follow at some point.

Congrats! I'm also a fairly 'new boy' (currently spending way too much time 'fixing' as opposed to 'driving'), there's some VERY knowledgable guys on here - so you/we're very well served!

fingers crossed for your maiden voyage!

Welcome.

What have you purchased? New from the Factory or s/h from a self builder?

Don't expect to be able to explore the performance of the car until your are used to it or it will bite (unless you are an experienced race car driver).

Remember, if you don't like something about the car you can usually change it.

Enjoy.

To answer a few of the questions.

I'm buying not building. I've built 2 cars so far but I didn't want to build an Ultima as I wasn't sure I could do it justice.

The car is running an upgraded LS3 with about 540 horses champing at the bit.

I'm in north Cambs.

I will have to see about driving in the rain, I am well aware that my safety relies upon my right foot and little else, but it is the spectre of aqua planing that worries me most. Around here I often see major A roads with huge deep puddles that fill at least one lane, hitting one of those in the Ultima is not worth thinking about.

Take a towel with you and put it on your lap when you open the door in the rain. Especially after sitting still for a few minutes in the rain.

Put said towel down on the seat too, as when you open the door again it will drip on the seat. Also, carry a second towel for wiping the side pod.

Morning and welcome!

I too am a recent member of the GTR club having picked mine up around 3 weeks ago. So far I am absolutely bloody loving it!

To the OP, welcome aboard and enjoy your Ultima. In all instances drive safely, specially on public roads.

Take also a third towel if you didn'd choose the AC option...

Another noobie question. Does anyone run a rear camera in lieu of a rear view mirror? Any recommendations if so?

Ultima GTR and Can-Am have lateral rear view mirrors. No central positioned rear view mirror offered (impossible on the GTR), but camera systems exist.

Arrived home safely, new toy tucked up in the garage. No problems with the weather, but I do need to find out how the air con works as it was a tad warm in the cockpit.

Car already appears to have a reversing camera, again, need to figure out how it works!

With my kit due in just over a month, I've been thinking quite a bit about whether or not to do a reversing camera ("backup camera" here in the States). I like the idea of having one (I love my MB's), along with the GPS and Bluetooth phone interface I'd install with it, but haven't yet convinced myself that it's in the spirit of the GTR. I'll probably do it anyway. :-)

Any pics and descriptions of the system would be appreciated!

Well, having a few teething troubles with the car.

Took the car out today and when I stopped I had real trouble getting the car to restart. When you turned the key the starter sounded like it kicked in but just couldn't turn the engine over. Tried jump starting but no joy. In the end we push started the car, which took several goes. When the car did burst into line the temperature gauge was over 110 until the water started to circulate again when it came right down to 85.

I'm wondering if the car heatsoaks and the engine gaps close up to make starting a bh. Anyone else had this issue. Engine has only done 600 miles!

Maybe it's the baby battery, reading the posts on the forum it sound like a lot of the factory supplied ones fail early on.

If it was the battery, wouldn't the car have problems starting from cold too? Plus, jumping it from another car didn't make a difference.

First I would do the simple things.

Check all the cables, especially earths, are making good contact.

Then, if your purchased the car from the Factory, give them a call. It may be something they have seen before.

So I had almost identical issues and checking the cables (as previously suggested) is the first place to start. I'd then check the condition and age of the battery before looking to the charging circuit. 98% of my problem was the alternator was too small for the job so I had to upgrade to a much beefier output.
