So out in the car today for the first proper drive since all the work has been completed and other than being staggered by the cars performance I've found that the oil pressure gauge is 'over reading' - either this or my oil pump has decided to add another 3 bar (5 bar when cold at tickover then off the scale when running). So either my gauge is misreading (unlikely) OR a pressure release valve has gone on the fritz. Any ideas?

Btw - forgot to mention that when the car was running previously the pressure was registering normally on the gauge.

Which engine are you running?

My LS7 gives a reading of 5 on idle when cold, but once fully warmed up reads around 3 on idle, but still 5 when running.

Sorry should have said. SBC. Most worrying is that it's changed since the last time ran. Which either means that something's happened to increase the pressure (partial blockage?) or the Sender/ gauge has become faulty.

Are you reading direct or via ECU?
Or are we talking Carb and Dizzy?
ETS Just looked through some posts so original question is feed via ECU,
If so check direct if not get another gauge/sender or borrow one to check direct.

I 'think' I have a spare (removed from the fuel rail and they look the same). I'm not sure whether it goes via the Motec ecu or not (would be surprised if it did as I don't recall an input for oil pressure) but will check when I get back home tomorrow.

PHEW - turns out it was merely a dodgy connection on the sender which was sending the reading haywire!
