Collected my gearbox today I'll start reassembling everything sometime this week, but I can't remember if it's 2.5 or 2.75 litres of fully synthetic 75/90 oil to fill a Getrag 996 box??? Also what's the recommended oil of choice?

Hi Graham,

the correct oil quantity for your gearbox is 2.7L.

I would check the level after a road test next morning as the differential will be empty of all fluids and will retain some of that on an oil change but as yours is all clean and dry it will require a top up.

Oil recommended is MOBIL 75/90 PTX

As we run with the 'box fitted upside down there is no way to test for level so we can only rely on filling with a known amount from the outset. I assume the 2.7L is for a 'box in standard layout so may not apply here.

Thanks Mike,
I'm pretty sure I used 2.75 litres last time. I did use Shell Helix but looks like this is no longer available, I've been looking for the Mobil PTX but it looks like bulk buy only, is there another alternative?

I've used this in my 50/52 for the last three years. No problems.
Especially good from cold.
