Bad luck Dom.

I am sure you have checked, but is the bolt that connects the linkage to the rod from the box still there/intact? It may have sheared.

Please keep us informed of this issue as I have the same box.

hi
still intact but unded bolt and selector shaft has snapped.

the good thing is it about 6 inches from end so because in the tail of the box metal wont hopefully gone to gears. the bad thing is my cars done 16,000 miles and this gear box was brand new when the car was built.

i need to now find out someone who car rebuild these boxes near me.

Not sure. Would have thought the gear linkage is tried and tested by now... It wasnrt a recon box. It was brand new 2001 and only done very low mileage. Im wondering if outer bearing worn due to gear linkage and the shaft snaped as supported inside but not on outside due to bearing.. only a therory

Hi Dom, bad news there.

Graham P had some gearbox work done at a place in Manchester a few weeks back. Contact him see how that went.

Corvettedave, don't start panicking about a broken gearbox, they don't come along here very often.

Was it new 'out the box' or from a newish low mileage car.

Most of us have 'used' box's and have no idea how bad the accident was the caused the box' to be available. We therefore have no idea if any of the internals suffered and how long they will last.

I've never done it but am informed the tail section can be removed with ease and without the need for special tools so I would do that first and see how far it takes you.

Hi Dom

Sorry to hear this. I had the same a few years back. I got a local precision engineering firm to make a new one for me and found another local guy who took gearbox apart, checked everything else and fitted the new rod. He even cleaned the box for me, so it all went back clean. Total cost was about £200. If Nottingham isn't too far, message me and I'll see if I can find his number.

Good luck sorting it.

Dom

Graham here http://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/profile.asp?mem...

If it's any consolation I have suffered a bearing failure in my d/s rear wheel this weekend.

They only seem to give trouble when you use them!

The car has done 8000 miles since my rebuild, but the hub was the original, so a total of about 25000 miles.

It has done a few track days but mostly road use.

Haven't stripped it down yet but I suspect bearing turning in the hub.

I can imagine that the rear bearings must support some stress considering the width of the wheels and tyres. Use on track will also increase wear and shorten overall bearing life.

Hi Dom,
I used Sports and Classic in Manchester, came recommended from the Porker forum, very pleased with the rebuild, Mike was great to deal with and very knowledgable.
