Busy building!
Richard and Ted are always so quick to answer any build questions and I have the impression that everything else has already been discussed in the forum before.

Actually I think there is an element of exclusivity around ultimas.

  • at this point I consider my deeper thoughts on the subject and wonder if I can be bothered posting.... actually Im not, Im sure a like minded chap will come along and say exactly what Im thinking anyway....then I realise the irony around the topic:about people not posting and lurking and choose to continue.... *
If I was to stereotype an ultima owner, Im guessing an engineering type or at least a person with an underlying need to know what makes stuff tick. Probably experienced in car tinkering and probably been around a few other car forums. Probably a good bit older than your Clio owners club are bracket simply because of the expendable income needed to build/own one. Probably likes creating a little mystery and subtlety of having a relatively unknown brand of car that that separates the onlookers from car likers from car enthusiasts, with acknowledgement from the latter of respect and....well you have to be a *bit* bonkers to drive one. The ultimas are not a subtle car but more so than some other 'shouty, look at me' brands.

So a summary of my potentially offensive and hypocritical opinion is we are all older gits that are private individuals that think we know best and therefore have no need to listen or share out ideas.....

Not out of touch. Some subjects go round and round. On the more contentious topics the Factory provides input and then penny drops and all becomes clear, and the subject will go quiet for a while. Plus for most of us it is a hobby so we have to juggle PH reading and writing time in with all the other demands of today's lifestyle and work demands.

You have bought into a very niche single manufacturer car with very limited production, probably still in the hundreds.
There are thousands of cobra / Gt40 clones out in the wild with thousands of owners, each make manufactured a little different to the other vis a vis any build problems aren't going to be the same between different manufacturers therefore more questions over a broad width of cars.
Percentage wise I bet we are right on top of the pile for forum comment, car for car owner for owner.
There's just not enough of us on the road / building to fill forum space.

I've just done a straw poll,
Piston heads forum: All kit cars combined 95,959 posts - Ultima : 107,984 posts. so on PH we are ahead on posts v's ALL kit cars including Cobra's and GT40's.
Factory five 15,000 threads 168,00 posts

GT40 33,000 threads 369,000 posts

It also depends on how long the forum has been in place

I agree about Kalifornia weather and all. With Kalifornia's new law on self/ kit builds it makes it very easy to own a Ultima.

The Ultima cost to build is high compared to let's say my F5 Roadster, I would say 3 x the cost and in recent years the SB100 with a limit of 500 per year has never been met telling us there are fewer builders that can afford even a F5 kit.

Yes the SB100 law in Kalifornia does make it easy, but you never know when they will remove it. Kalifornia just signed a bill to remove plastic bags through-out the entire state as of January 1, and they still have this false belief that man made CO2 is warming the planet.

My future Ultima build would most definitely raise the ocean levels, kill-off the Polar bears & whales, change the migration of the eastern white spotted pecker muncher, so there is some concern.
Of course it all comes down to fees, the left wing gov. here seems to dismiss their fake agenda when you hand over money.

Thanks very much Mike, it's nice to be appreciated.
