.... and it was a 450 mile journey to bring it home after buying it smilesmile

Following on from my "anyone know this car" thread, and since I got "spotted" driving it home, I thought I should give an update.

I ended up getting lots of info and went on to have the most perfect dealings with Mark in relation to his car. This was followed by a train journey down to Birmingham yesterday, a sleepless night in a hotel last night then being collected by Mark to see the car this morning. It is so refreshing to see a car which is exactly as described by the owner and have such a smooth and friendly transaction. All that was needed was to complete the paperwork and drive it home.

First impressions are that it has great road presence. I felt like Moses parting the Red Sea when pootling up the M6 at 70mph(ish) as everyone moved over to let me trundle past. The car was a dream to drive with no drama. Temps were solid, I think I ended up with somewhere around 23/24/25mpg which is nice.

I did get caught in a heavy shower and liked how the windscreen wiper makes a good job of wiping the whole centre section of the screen rather than the bit I am looking out of, and I am sure I will find the knack of filling it with petrol in a more efficient manner and hopefully will find a more dignified way of getting out of it (I can already fall into it in a sort-of semi-dignified manner already)

Apologies in advance for some of the dumb questions which will follow about what this bit does or what that bit is for or how do I do this/that or the next thing.... but hey.... for now.. life is good!!

Hi Jim,I'm glad you had a smooth and enjoyable drive home. It was a pleasure to do business with you too, a gent and real car enthusiast. The way we should all deal when buying and selling cars.Thanks. Missing the Ult already. The car looks fab next to part of the collection. Have fun and don't forget to try the shopping in it. Cheers Mark.

I am sort of Arbroath(ish) Sounds vague but even the postman needs satnav wink

More than keen to meet up. The bigger circle of folk I can meet to answer my stoopid Ultima questions... the more stoopid Ultima questions I can ask smile

Biggest crisis today was trying to explain to Mrs R that Mark must have lied when he said it had a nice big boot and would make a practical shopping car!! Oops!!

We did look fairly extensively for it, but I guess it must have fallen off or something.

Hi that looks like my old ultima, you should be very happy with it.

would never have sold it if it wasn't for the amazing Ultima I replaced it with.

Martin.

Hi Martin, I believe it certainly is your former car smile
It is properly sorted, properly set up and stunning.
A credit to everyone who has owned it (so a wee bit of pressure on me now then) smile

I am really pleased you are happy with it.

the paint scheme was very radical when I first had it painted.

if you are ever passing junction 16 of the M6, let me know, would love to see it again.

Seriously thinking about selling my Steve Smith Ultima now as I just don't use it very much.

Martin.

Just curious, is it painted or vinyl wrapped? Thinking of a vinyl wrap for when mines completed, as I'm not overly fond of any of the factory colour options

It is painted. I am sure Martin can give a bit more background to that but it really is a top quality job and must have cost a fair bit. All the vulnerable bits have been well covered with 3M chip protection and the paintwork looks ace. Colours are Alfa Gregio Quartz bodywork, Stripe is Lotus Lava orange with BMW titan silver pinstripe.

Yeah, it is looking quite forlorn outside at the moment. frown
I am minded to sell the Exige because I can't think of a day where I would take it out rather than the Ultima, but I can't make my mind up.

Wendy just muttered something in French.

Well, I think it was French.
It certainly began with an F. wink
