Hi all,
I am just about ready to start trimming the centre section before getting it back on the car. I was wondering what others had done for a headlining. I was thinking of using alcantara and simply gluing it direct to the interior fibreglass skin, but then started to ponder whether it needed a thin foam backing or similar to get a nice finish.
Any thoughts, ideas and photos would be much appreciated.

yes, there is a product that should go between the Alcantara and the fiberglass. its maybe 3/16 of an inch thick, fairly dense foam and makes the alcantara lay flat and look nice. By the way the doors make this job a little different than most. Because part of the door is actually part of the roof it all looks a bit more finished if the headliner materiel is applied to the doors at least to the point where the door section goes vertical. Both RAT GTR and I have used the really short cut square weave carpet in the car and I have to say it really fits the nature of the car and it is damn near indestructible. Mine has been in for 6 years and 24,000 miles and it looks like the day it was installed. My change to my interior work would be a machined plate to mount the mirrors onto with a cover so that when needed I could remove the cover and access the mirror mount bolts. When the day comes that I need to do something to the mirrors It will be an exacto knife to the alcantara to get at the bolts. Poor planning on my part. lEE

Sounds interesting - I will make enquiries.This then led to the application of a small grinder equipped with flapper wheel to the existing fibreglass skin - past the point of no return here (see holes at the edges....) and wondering what the factory might charge for a replacement liner. Was also amazed at how well the eBay purchased 3m face mask was working when I was able to carry on breathing even though struggling to see on account of the dust cloud...
Cue much cutting, gluing, grinding, sanding and then polishing, resulting in this:

I'm please with how it turned out, and needed to do something with the existing inner skin, which stood proud of the rubber door seal edges in places, which I didn't like.
Just the back panel to trim, and then I can get the centre section on,and then.....the engine! Which should provide for photos that are a bit more interesting.
The carbon effect looks very nice.
Would it be possible to simply vinyl wrap with sticky back carbon effect vinyl?

That would have undoubtedly saved a lot of time, money and effort! I was keen to have the real stuff, though.Would it be possible to simply vinyl wrap with sticky back carbon effect vinyl?
