I can't remember the part number for the Carters but a quick search brings up several different models.

Two things
First strip the ailing pump down as you will likely find it full of gunk as it has an internal filter. This may be why it is having issues.
Second contact the Factory as they will have them in stock and may even be cheaper than you can get one in from the US.

I'm interested in fuel pumps at the moment. My car was fitted with the factory preferred (at the time) Facet pumps. My first two lasted a few years until they both failed on a trip to Donington. Luckily, by giving them a good thump, they would tick back into life and I managed to get home. I bought new pumps, but recently one of these started to fail. I bought another pump, but on checking the output, found the fuel flow to be about a third of the reported specification. I contacted the importers and was told this was one of their new "solid state pumps" which required a "good 12 volts" to pump efficiently! So, if your battery is a bit low, or you have everything electrical switched on, the pump will not be pumping at the desired rate. (By the way, the new pump buzzes rather than ticks) Now, I start the car on the old "ticker" pump, then switch to the new pump when under way. If I'm driving with all electricals on (lights, aircon etc) I wait until the engine starts to cough, then switch over to the ticker! I just have to make sure I have sufficient fuel in the ticker tank to get me where I want to go!
So, I may be looking for alternative pumps in the future.

What about using some Bosch pumps, but I don't know if they are only suitable for FI and not carbs.

Or you can buy a blanking cap
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Goodridge-Blanking-Cap-6...

Every time I try to use a temporary bung I always manage to knock it and have a flood on my hands/arms/neck/feet/etc.

Or a short piece of hose the right diameter with a bolt in one end and 2 jubilee clips. There will be no knocking that off!

The hose will have JIC fittings on the end so inserting a bolt is not an option.

I'm using two Bosch 044 Motorsport pumps now, but these are HP pumps for fuel injection. I guess you could use a pressure regulator and return to tank system for carbs maybe? Generally I would go with a production OEM type pump as they are normally very reliable.
Good luck!

Using high pressure pumps with restrictors is not a good idea, you will put a lot of heat into the fuel and the Bosch 0044 pumps will buzz as they like to be fed from a swirl pot etc. rather than suck from a tank.
The Carter lifter type pumps are exactly what is needed, unless of course you are using more than 72 gallons of fuel per hour wink
