Evening chaps,
Everythings been fine on headlight upgrade, I even passed an MOT and the only thing that was said that my drivers side was slightly too high. I haven't actually used the lights in anger as yet, but as you can see from the pics in the other thread it really does may a big difference. LED bulbs are also an option but Id be concerned if the get too close to the tyres.

Next headlight upgrade is to add in some Silica gel bags to eliminate any condensation on the inside. Getting the things to seal is a pain, I still get a little condensation in strong sunlight after rainfall.

I've contacted the supplier to see if they'd offer a discount for a group buy and they have agreed, depending on volumes.

So, I'll start the ball rolling:

Prices are all in the site Steve and vary on bulb type. Between £95 & £120 for H4s and 7s.

I don't think a group buy will go very far, they've offered a discount for a 100 lol.

Noticeable heat difference between halogen Dom?

Are you concerned enough that it may distort the covers (or hot enough to melt the clam?;))

Just thought I'd help...

I have a GTR and also run a Class VII MOT station in Yorkshire. If you are concerned about whether your Ultima will pass an MOT, on these particular headlights, or any other testable item, I've posted the entire MOT Inspection Manual here so you can see how we are required to examine vehicles and assess them for the UK roads. The introduction of our beloved MOT Computerisation (Comp)a few years ago removed many of the inconsistencies across garages in the way the MOT itself is administered by testers, and MOT testing has definitely got better (it says here..)

Just thought if you can see the actual rules we have to apply on Ultimas (and all other cars) you will see that fitting these lights shouldn't pose too may problems

You can find the whole Class IV inspection manual here:
https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/mot-ins...

Obviously sections 1.7 and 1.8 are the relevant legislation for headlamps, and aim.

Certainly, providing at our VTS that we can get the headlamp aim set reasonably, there are no real issues at the moment, and no Special Notices current

With the number of cars driving around with their front fog lights on as well as their dipped beams, there should be no issue over the height of headlights!!!!

I have to say that I can count the number of times I have used the Ultima in the dark on one hand. I suspect most Ultima's seldom see the road in the dark.

I definitely agree with that!

Our VTS must fail and have to adjust the headlights on virtually 50% of three year old vehicles coming in for their first MOT. A new car's pre-delivery inspection is meant to include checking/setting up the lights properly before the car is registered to the road. The majority of dealer-completed PDI's seem these days to be limited to cleaning off the wax, and putting a bunch of flowers inside the car for the missus! So many of the oncoming cars with faulty headlamp levels dazzling you are usually new(ish) cars that have never been near a beam-checker!

Somewhat ironic when you see the level of care and attention a new Ultima owner has to put into to his headlights just to get through an IVA test for first registration. GRRRR!

Well, I enjoyed that little rant...we are certainly doing our bit.

If you want as much light as possible you will need a lamp in the colour range of 4100K (most around this temp range will be 4300K) from 4100K up the "lumens" diminish, also it is worth noting that after the lamps "break in" the colour temperature tends to shift upward, in some cases by >1000K.

ETS Phillips 85122 (D2S) range are quality and will be in the range of 500 Lumens brighter visible light than a typical 5000-6000K retrofit.
They also tend to colour shift upward as well but a LOT less (100K?) than typical retrofit.
