Can anyone advise on wiring up a none factory hazard warning switch?

The factory switch has 8 connections and I'm looking to use a switch with only 2.

I am struggling to understand how a Hazard switch could have only 2 connections.... Have you already got such a switch ?

It sounds like you are looking at the wrong switch, they can come with a variety of switch blocks (or none at all).
You need a clip on switch block that goes with the switch (it slides over and locks on to give more poles. I think you can get momentary and latching.

I plan to put my hazard switch in the roof panel (rectangular plate with 3 holes) and so need something that is flush fit and fairly shallow.

So I would need a small flush fit single pole switch that would operate a double pole type relay. Similar to this...

Can anyone see any issues with this arrangement as wiring as not my strength?

In principle yes this would work however you would need to remove the existing hazard arrangement and its wiring.

So in theory I could purchase just the savage hazard switch block and use a switch of my choice.

Does anyone have any instructions/diagrams that would explain how to wire the savage hazard switch? Are there any additional components required for the rear led indicators?

you need the six pole savage switch for hazard , the six pin connection mounts on the two pin switch.

Now you just have to work out how to have the switch light up half bright when the lights come on and full bright in operation/ flashing.

I managed in the end but I'm sure there must be a way of not using 6 diodes and 12 resistors!

Don't plan to use the savage switch itself. Just the connection block that it comes with. You can use the connection block and wire any latching switch to it.

Rdodger - Its the Dim / Bright wiring kit on page 144 of the CBS catalogue. But you do have to use one for each switch.

Yes one for each switch. I was too tight to use that kit but wired mine in the same way.

i presume if you only want to use one wire its the switching circuit off a relay with the rest of wires
