the only way I can think of removing the rivet remains is with a combination of fluid flowing in one end of the tube, and a large vacuum pulling it out of the other end of the tube, to do this you probably need to drill a hole so that it is big enough to pass the head.

sort of like non destructive digging, where you use the water to blast away the rocks/convert to mud, and then a large vacuum to suck up all the crap......all so you don't dig through your fibre optic/power cables in the street.

It would be lighter but they do different things.

What many people forget is that dynamat converts noise (vibrations) into heat held and gradually released by the rubberised matting.
