All, I need to do a rather swift clutch replacement for an upcoming 8 day event. This last weekend I was at the track and 3 times coming off a turn and accelerating I felt the clutch slip and had to let up off the throttle a bit. I babied the clutch the rest of the event to prevent it from getting worse.

Ideally, there should not be any clutch slippage as the there is ~4,500 mild miles on the car.

The setup is a LS1 with ~500hp at the flywheel, KEP adapter (Kennedy Engineered Products), G50-01 tranx.

First question, is there possibly an adjustment?

I do not know what clutch is currently installed, I am assuming one supplied by KEP.

Second question, I see Spec clutch sells packages for a LS1,2,3,7 with a 996/997TT gearbox. Spec Clutch specifies "GM LS engine with Porsche 996/997TT gearbox", are the 996/997TT and G50-01 dimensions the same?

Third question, is there anything else I may nee to be aware of? I figure I should change the clutch pressure plate assembly and the clutch disk.

Any comments would be appreciated.

Hi I think the problem you may have is many different setups have been put in Ultimas you really need to know what you have at the moment.
What year is your gearbox, where is the starter mounted may give some indication. I ended up ordering the wrong parts from KEP as my later gearbox was running an earlier clutch setup (not ultima but same setup SBC mounted to G50 with KEP parts). If you have a 1990 or later clutch setup message me as I still have the later KEP stage 2 clutch available.

here here,
If you want my advice is live with the clutch you have for the event. Unless you know exactly what you have or its a complete plug and play, leave it to a time you aren't under pressure and have time to figure out whats what.
things you need to know for a definitive answer :

what adapterplate?
what flywheel, is it sprung?
What gearbox and what year? G50-01 use the later clutch as std I think but that doesn't mean its not an early clutch!?
what side of the engine/box is the starter?

any of these answers could flip the final answer of what clutch you need,

Im afraid if you didnt fit it or know who did there is a good game of , what the hell have I got? I've just finished playing that game!
and I still havent got a clutch....hmm, thats a month now...
PS.... That bloke ^^^^^^ knows his G50 clutches! smile PS thanks for the tips a few weeks ago.....smokin

Thx for the info.

Looking at the car from the rear, the starter is on the right side. USA passenger side. UK drivers side.

Possibly an option to do nothing for now. I will take the car to a different track tomorrow to see if I experience the slip again.

Ah, I was meaning which side is the starter, engine side or gearbox side? Usually that indicates if the starter ring gear is on the flywheel or the clutch pressure plate.....

Starter is on transaxle side. I also have a request out to the original builder to see if he remembers, long time ago.

Here is a photo from a while back when doing exhaust fabrication.
