Windscreen Wiper
Discussion
There is a solution, the top top part of the wiper arm was redesigned but not sure there'll be any left now, Simon (GTRSimon) from Wales did a batch a few years ago, then I believe Kyle got hold of some but as I say not sure any if any are left. Drop them a line to see.
Just found the thread.

I've thrown the wipers away.
Now I use "raincoat" an american product wich is used to improve the visibility in helicopters.
It is specially develloped for polycarbonate windows.
I imported it from the States but now it seems available in the uk aswell.

legally require a windscreen wiper for sva and mot
My 2005 Can Am which I bought last Spring, never had a wiper fitted for the previous 9 years - so I don't know how the previous 2 owners got it through the mot! The car did have an aero screen originally, so assume that's how it passed sva, but the full screen was fitted shortly after. I've since fitted a wiper (& mandatory washers, if wiper fitted) and yep, the blade has scratched the screen slightly. Managed to get hold of one of the mods through the forum a couple of months ago that was languishing in someone's garage loft - so some are still around.Storer said:
Rainex (sp) is similar and I use it for trips where I can't be sure of the weather.
No issue with scratching but I do have the mod.

Yes but Rainex tends to damage the polycarbonate safety glazing when aplied regularly. No issue with scratching but I do have the mod.

This comes from the FAQ from the Rainex site :
Is Rain-X® Original Glass Treatment safe to use on plastics, motorcycle windshields, and ATVs?
No. This product is intended for automotive glass applications.
However they seemed to have launched Rain X plastics very recently.

I'd be interested in the factory comments on this.
I ordered a wiper kit probably 2009, can't quite remember and subsequently lost it during a house move. I ordered a replacement I think in 2012 and I'm pretty sure it was a different design, and I don't appear to have any scratching in my screen 3 years later.

Not sure about the actual wiper, but the wiper arm mount I believe has been changed as I remember having a chat about it at the Stoneleigh Kit Car Show last year. Best to call the Factory, they are very helpful and will tell you the whole story. I have only used the wiper to test it. Avoid wet weather with the car as much as possible & in any case the windscreen has been polished & Gtechnic water repellent sealant applied which is brilliant.

Thanks for that information.
I only use it on the glass screen so I have not had any issues.

Related wiper question:
It's a bit difficult to tell from the one photo on the CD showing the installed wiper motor, but is it entirely supported by the two studs that extend up through the GRP with no metal bracketry at all? Hard to believe, but OK…

Yes, supports just on the shaft. It's a bit difficult to tell from the one photo on the CD showing the installed wiper motor, but is it entirely supported by the two studs that extend up through the GRP with no metal bracketry at all? Hard to believe, but OK…

I have received and fitted the wiper mod from GTR Simon and it works really well, no metal scraping the screen now. As detailed above the factory have changed the design now so new builders shouldn't have this problem. If you want to go the factory route you will need to change the motor and wiper mechanism.
