Jean Paul - I'm just down the road from you outside Crawley the new UK oil capital if you want to see one 95% finished
Excellent - thanks for the offer, would love to see it! DHGTR said:
between 6 months and ... well there are few are still going after 5 years.
dependent on time and money really.
mine had a 2 year target and took 4, because i hadn't bargained for cold winters in an unheated garage.
Also dependent on any of yr own mods that you may want. it all adds up.
The manual is pretty good and the bits that aren't quite so good are backed up by some very good build diaries online. in fact work with both manual and diaries for a much clearer picture.

Errmmm yes , prob majority of people posting on here.
Great, so how long does it take to build (roughly)? And are there good instructions with it? dependent on time and money really.

You need to go to the Stoneleigh Kit Car Show on the 4th May and the factory ASAP.
Thanks, racingroj! I'll look that up. You need to go to the Stoneleigh Kit Car Show on the 4th May and the factory ASAP.
I think I've got it - yes I think there may be a few Ultima GTRs for sale.

There is also a covered hall where people can park up to effectively sell their pride and joy iirc.

So as a rough guess an absolute minimum of 500hrs?
That's about what I reckon I took as a complete amateur but using all Ultima standard parts and AS engine package. That included all the bits that took longer than they should have for various reasons - i.e. its a true estimate rather than what it "should" have taken me which I would think is 300-350 hours.Mark

Probably. Depends what else you add to it. I don't think it's unreasonable to suggest that most home built ones will have variations to factory in some part or other. 500 hours could easily turn in to 1000. C/f bits, dash mods.stitched roll bars etc.
think I'd just do a standard build, if I wre to go ahead. What an awesome machine for the money though!I try not to think of it in terms of hours, but jobs. I do each task to the best of my ability and don't ever time myself, if I ever feel that way I just lock the garage and wont work on the car. I think if you look at hours then you are going to miss things or cut corners. Standard build is not hard to follow if you are fairly useful with spanners and rivet gun!!

Building the car yourself is a major part of the enjoyment of Ultima ownership. If you set targets and timescales you rather miss the point of building the car yourself.
If you rush things you will make mistakes or do a poor job which will either bug you every time you drive/see the car and reduce the value if/when you sell.
As Ted will tell you, the Factory are selling a hobby that just happens to be a car when you have finished it.

Fair enough. I think I'd enjoy that in any case.If you rush things you will make mistakes or do a poor job which will either bug you every time you drive/see the car and reduce the value if/when you sell.

I too don't feel the GTR is obsolete either and a bit harsh however it's good the factory are moderising the car...
An evo model is big wings, flared arches and bigger hp.. This isnt.. It's just bigger HP
Other than the newer chassis all these goodies are bolt on and newer GTR 's with a newer chassis can be converted to the new Evo model anyway so all those cars being built in the factory were GTR 's before new wheels were bolted on for the photos
The Evo is just an advertising gimmic to get attention...and now they offer 1000 hp option it will be interesting to see the improvement over their previous records or claims to fame..
So when is there to be a new TG record attempt guys... And now you have 1000 + hp what gearbox and driveshaft mods have you done to keep it together.. Also how have brakes been improved to slow it down too..
Be interested to see the record attempts rolling in for us all to see.. Yippee.. We'll done guys

The Evo 1020bhp version utilises a new GT2 transaxle with oil cooler
Interesting.... what else have you done to the 'box to get 240mph out of it? By my maths, the GT2 box gearing would allow 209mph with a 7,000rpm rev limit.... A GT2 box is £££s alone, but modified with longer 6th / final drive would make it a very expensive unit, no?Are you now supporting 996/7 Turbo & GT3 'boxes too?
Also I'd be interested to know modifications to floor especially rear under the engine and how air escapes the rear clamp at top speed.. Are you running rear mudguard to reduces rotational turbulence. Leaving grill off to allow 240 mph air to escape? God this exciting wanting to see and know what the factory have done...
Also are we going to see you out at v max.. I'd love an ultima to show them who's boss

You may be hoping a bit much there Dom. High powered porkers are difficult to better for top speed in short spaces as they're slippery little things!
I'm interested in all the little things that will make the car handle better and be faster on track, so any tech info from the factory would be great.
Richard, can you do the new rears in 19"
