When listing the description of their supercharged 1020 hp engine as used in the new Ultima Evo, American Speed says 'requires modification'. Does anyone know what the modification is, i.e. rear clam, chassis etc ?

Probably the hole cut in the bulkhead to make way for the charger pully.... or a big hole in the clam for the can am.

That's got to be it.

I noticed, too, that AS has omitted their prices from the new table. Any idea what they're asking for the supercharged 1020? I'm betting north of $40K.

I remember both Ultima and American Speed removing prices from their websites within hours of each other, dunno why but there you go !!

I was reliably informed that the 1020hp engine is about £30k in the UK.

Remember, it costs quite a bit to get it to the UK and pay our taxes on the import so probably a bit cheaper in US.

$40k + taxes.

You need to cut a large hole in bulk head to take the whipple supercharger pulley and belt at the top. Iirc you also need to move the engine back by a few mm if the the supercharger is on a separate belt and not off the ancillary belt.

The Whipple has it's own belt.

thats alot to be honest, could do that horsepower for alot less, using the lsx engine and supercharger

Actually according to Gail, you have a choice, but you still probably need to cut a whole in the bulk head to allow access. Iirc its $1500 to change the ancillaries to accept the wider supercharger belt.

Not sure if these help, but looking at my photos from the Stoneleigh show, you can just see an alloy recess that appears to have been put into the bulkhead

That interesting! No reason I guess you couldn't run the same belt. However I know a lot of the Supercharged LS engine are going dedicated supercharger belts to reduce belt slip. In fact the Corvette guys have been able to run pretty larger centri blowers on as little as 6rib belts! Dis Gail mention what rib count the common belt (supercharger and ancillaries) was? I would be guessing you would want a 10 to 12 rib, which is going to be similar to say a 4 ancillary belt with a 8 rib supercharger belt.

yep very expensive and seriously doubt the power output claimed.

I have never been a fan of American speed engines. I think there are much better ways to go if you have even a clue. All that said, 1020 Horsepower on a supercharged 427 LS motor is well within reason with even moderate boost levels although I would question what level of fuel was used for the dyno pull. The real question I have is does anyone who runs an Ultima primarily on the street see any positive aspect to running over 550-600 hp? Even on the track how many people can say that they honestly have a well sorted Ultima at its limit and horsepower will make the experience any more satisfying? My point is the car will "live well and prosper" at reasonable power levels mine has at 565hp for 7 years and 30,000 miles same clutch tranny and driveshafts. New builders put your ego aside for a minute, forget the mando motor, invest the money in yourself for good instruction. There's nothing worse than going to a track with a "bullet" car and getting your ass handed to you by a well driven..........name your poison. Lee
