Can this be done without cutting the top of the dash out?? Have a broken fan and need to remove the unit.

Man; What a shame, this is about the only issue with maintaining an Ultima that really causes me concearn. I do not think you can get the unit out without being close friends with a very small Japanese child with very good mechanical skills. I would pull the window, cut a hole in the top of the dash, build a retaining with a 1/2 inch lip glue the ring to the underside of the dash board and attach the cut out glass piece back into the hole Trim the dash accordingly and call it done. New builders take note this is why I posted the removable dash piece that was built for Jon Paynes GTR this problem would be a walk in the park

Many owners have retro fitted A/C so I don't see why it would not be possible to remove the existing for repair.
You would need to start by removing the seats so you can get on your back in the footwell.
You will need an assistant who can identify and pass the required tools.

It may be that you need to remove the wiper motor as the first stage.

I bow to the guru Steve, if he says it can be done, so be it. I still think the use of Japaneses children might be necessary. At 6 ft 2, 88kgs and big hands my under dash ability is very limited. Lee
