Just mid way through now, grateful if anyone can answer these questions:

1. Are there 2 sump drain plugs?
2. Do I also undo the drain plug in the oil tank, and if so does this need any thread seal when going back in?
3. Torque wrench settings for both please?

Many thanks!
Mark

Yes mine has two drain holes, one underneath and one on the side I think closer to the oil filter.
Not sure about the oil tank, I have never needed to as nearly all the 7.6 litre (8 quarts) quantity pours out from the sump.
Filter & drain plugs torque is 18 lb/ft.
My instructions say fill 7 quarts, run engine for 15 seconds at idle and add the final 1 quart of oil.

If not too late, it is also good idea to drain the tank as there can be crud in the bottom.

Depending on the tank you can also take it a part and clean it.

I don't know your installation but you can also remove the lines to the oil pan and drain those lines as well.

In the end it is best to get as much of the old oil out.

You'll likely need to use thread sealer on the bottom drain on the tank. Loctite do a VERY good thread sealant in a paste form in a lipstick type tube. Sorry I don't have the number to hand.

Sorry I forgot to add that first I pump it out of the oil tank, where majority of the oil is. So if you can drain the tank also then probably a good idea. Apologies for writing it wrong in my first post.

Hello,
I have a few follow up questions regarding an oil change on my LS7 Ultima:
1. Does the plug at the bottom of the sump tank use a crush washer? If so, what is the part number and/or where (US) can I find one? I did just read (above) that Lactate in paste form will do the trick. Is that to be used without a crush washer? The reason I ask is that I have a slow drip that my car our of commission until I can resolve it. I don't mind doing another oil change but want to be sure I am using the right parts.
2. Wanted to know how to drain an LS7 - that was answered above. Thank you.
3. Same for how much oil to add - Thanks. (I didn't write notes when I did it last time)
4. Is the sump (likely to be) a standard Ultima part? Or might it be different because the builder/prior-owner installed an LS7. The cap says PACE PRODUCTS.
5. Since I have to replace the plug in the tank (re-seal/crush washer it rather) I plan to drain it as well as the two plugs in the LS7 engine. Isn't draining the tank from the bottom SOP for a change?
6. And do the LS7 plugs need crush washers or sealer and what are their torque settings?
Thanks in advance and any further info would be appreciated.

Verde nothing special about the crush washer take the old one into a NAPA store and they can replace it out of stock. The dry sump pan probably is a G.M part since you have an LS7. lEE

My LS7 has a GM sump and I seem to remember it has rubber washers on the sump plugs. I have never needed to change them or add sealant.
I never drain the dry sump tank as my experience in the past has taught me that the fewer plugs you remove the less leaks are likely. The outlet on my DS tank is close to the bottom anyway.
Torque is what feels right IMO. If you do them up too tight you end up crushing the rubber washer.

Hope this helps.

I seem to have to ask a question every year when I do an oil change!

Does anyone have the torque setting for the plug in the bottom of the dry sump tank?

Thanks
Mark
