I would like to make the windows in my GTR removable. I've seem some of the other removable window solutions implemented by other members here, but they appear to be beyond my technical expertise. In my view, the most straight forward way I can see to do this is to switch the mounting method for the windows from adhesive to counter-drilled black screws. However, I've been told that the process of removing existing windows that have been adhesively sealed to the doors results in deformed windows. Is this true? Is there any way to remove the existing windows without deforming/destroying them? Thanks in advance!

I would just slide in some fishing wire (with a needle) to the other side, then pull it around separating it from door.

As the windows are plastic the wire method would most likely damage the edge of the window.

I would get a window fitter to remove them for you as they have special tools with right angle cutting blades to do this job.

You will be very lucky to get the windows out without damaging them or the surrounding gel coat.

Sorry, I didn't mean wire, I mean fishing line. Get some 80lbs (37kg) fishing line, and use it like floss. I highly doubt this would damage the window or gel coat at all.

Sorry to bump this topic again, but I'm about to begin this project and just wanted to see if anyone else had any additional ideas about the best way to remove the GTR windows. Thanks!

A set of side windows are £80 so they're not dear.

As for getting them out, it's a pain but if you've got a new set then you won't really care.

Depending on how old the installation is you may be able to push them out as sealant deteriorates after time.

You can use the wire/fishing line method, but have some help, but you'll likely bugger the window and perhaps damage gel coat.

Once the window is out you then have to scrape off the sealant which WILL bugger the gel coat.

Good luck.

Only use clearner for polycarbonate windows as if use normal glass cleaner (they usually have ammonia in them) they will go clouding.

Has anyone come up with an effective way of making them easily removable, or perhaps able to be vented with the actual helicopter vents?
I've toyed with the idea of some kind of catch at the bottom right corner - bolt in the leading and top edge, then the catch will secure the rear edge and bottom and can open similar to a 1/4 light.

But not found a catch and don't know if it would simply break the polycarbonate......

What about the over centres that Ford used to put on the rear windows, I seem to remember them in my Escort Cosworth, maybe copy something like that, or get a CanAm smile

Just to be clear, assuming I can remove the windows without damaging the gel coat, you believe that the process of removing the remaining sealant from the gel coat will cause further damage? Or can this be avoided?

Yeah, I'm planning on replacing the windows no matter what; I'm just looking for the best way of removing the windows without damaging the gel coat.

If you're replacing the windows then I would cut the window out just inside the GRP aperture, then that would give you more options and be easier to remove the bit thats left, plus less chance of damaging the grp.

unfortunately is not correct.

I ordered some items from the factory: have doubled and even tripled the prices of many components, such as: side screen 280GB (!!), luggage 320gb (!!), etc. etc..

I had an estimate of the January 2016 price list but is no longer valid.weepingfurious

Good morning Factory,
I do not want make controversy but it is just to be clear:
I understand (correctly) that the products improve but I and my friends had your various estimates between late 2015 and January 2016.

They were not estimates of two years ago.

I wrote this post, because many owners are restructuring and / or modifying its gtr and must change their cost estimates.

that's all.

a forum used to this, to share and to inform correctly. drivingthumbup

Just to clarify, we haven't doubled or tripled the price of any spare parts as suggested on this thread.
Some prices have risen on just a few Ultima parts, but it needs bearing in mind that the specification of some parts such as the side screens and the luggage bins have changed considerably over the past couple of years, so isn't comparing like for like to previous versions. The Ultima is continuously evolved and improved.

Windows now have to be marked with the correct E45 codes by the window manufacturer along with their codes. In trying to buy windows for other projects we have found it very difficult to find a supplier both able or willing to do it.

Whilst the material Ultima use may always have been the right grade they may have had them made at any supplier with blow/vac forming capability and offering a good price. Now they will be in the same position we were in and having to pay an inflated price.
