Tying it in with a big car event is a good idea - Silverstone Classic has already been mentioned.

There are loads of interesting and small club representations there, although getting a parade lap would be tricky.

An annual trackday would be great. Owners who haven't taken them on track don't know what they're missing.

Silverstone would also be good for this, wide and safe, although owners would need to dig into their pockets for a place.

So 2016, annual trackday at Silverstone Gp, then annual factory meet at a club pitch at Silverstone classic and Richard can put his pinny on and have a BBQ smile

I have fond memories of the Ultima Factory trip to Le Mans (2001?). Met up near Folkestone, stayed the night at a hotel. Early ferry and drive to Le Mans next day, complete with exploding MSD dissy. Followed by about three nights of solid drinking at the Hotel Formule Une at Arnage.

Probably more time than people could spare these days, and Le Mans 24hrs has got a bit popular. Keep meaning to try the classic.

An Ultima only trackday would be great.

And plenty of space to show off the factory / owners cars.

biggrin LOL I think Richard is probably thinking more along the lines of burning rubber rather than burning sausages and burgers.

To continue the thread, having it as a track day is fine if that's all it is, but coming from further away and having to stay overnight, it would be tricky to carry enough stuff for a fun day/BBQ/Silverstone Classic etc. AND a track day.
So why not have both...in other words have an all Ultima track day as a completely different event on it's own...we should be doing that anyway and i find it hard to believe it hasn't happened up till now and then we can keep the Factory day/weekend as more of a fun relaxed thing where owners can chat more easily and not have to worry about racing.

Poor turn out at a KIT CAR show ( Stoneleigh ) 2014/15 owners yes, cars no, cant get any Ultimas to the Cholmondeley Pageant of Power for the last 5 years despite various offers of accom for the weekend and reduced tickets ?
Sounds like a cracking offer from the factory but I doubt if you can get any decent numbers to commit, shame !

Richard - I am up for it, good idea. I like the idea of something where we get to use the cars somehow, be it a track, drag strip etc.

In terms of location somewhere near the factory probably works fairly well being quite central. Though the top gear track not a million miles from me!

Cholmondley is on the same weekend as one of the biggest race events of the year. Plus it's a fair way for a large proportion of owners who have similar events more locally. They really should look at a different weekend to Le Mans imo.

This^^^^^^^^ Chumleeeeeeee needs to move dates.

On the open day front, Santa pod / Avon Park could be a good laugh. it could be held on a run what you brung w/end, there's normally a fair bit going on outside of the racing and there is camping at both venues and Hotels nearby also.
So turn up Friday evening/ Saturday morning leave Sunday J.A.G. thumbup

Donnington or Silverstone would be fantastic as it give driver/owners a chance to explore the limits of themselves or the car(plus they have noisy days too)
Mallory Park near the factory is so close to shutting down due to 2 new residents moving there and complaining about the noise( they havent heard mine yet!!!) so i wouldnt go there. However the track near Leicester so might want a chance to drive is Bruntingthorpe, its has a circuit and a 2 !/2 mile straight so we can see how fast our cars go...hint hint ..Im told its not too expensive either to play there but Richard will know as they have run their cars there before.

Cholmondley and The Festival of Speed are not central enough for a mass gathering.. maybe a north meet... same with carfest north and south.. different areas, different visitors... , (yes Russ id like more at CPOC too, we did get 5 one day and another 4 the next one year i bought the Gazibo there and the Factory nearly got the record car there too.

Karting sounds like fun... but we can all do that locally so if you are thinking of karting, we need to have more...maybe meet for lunch, then supercar fun run with prizes to a karting track... then o/night and next morning drag racing or maybe one of those auto test courses where we can throw the car arround??? (im sure Avon park will do the drag racing and or auto test or even Bruntingthorpe.

p.s..... Santa Pad is up hill by the way... Avon Park flat(difference of 0.3 second over the 1/4 mile) if you want to try breaking some production 1/4 mile records...hint hint

Either way I think its a fantastic idea by the factory.. Don't get me wrong, I usually come to the factory days if i can, as I love chatting to everyone, having a look around the shop floor and talking to the staff. They make us all so welcome its always a pleasure and they even feed us too.. mmm mmm, foods always plenty full and lovely.

I don't think its too late to organise. if we book too far in advance we more than likely will have rain... if every year we secure a date first then we can organise accordingly and vary the idea every year...:0)

great post by the way

Bruntingthorpe has fairly tight noise restrictions now I think, plus they can be a bit funny about insurance.

Perhaps an annual trackday could be arranged with the noble lot as they've been very welcoming in the past.

Brunters is fine if you're there on your own, but there's so much debris on the track you get sand blasted by any other vehicle nearby, not a good venue IMO. The idea of doing a bit of a track day is good though, I guess it would have to be shared with another group or two to keep costs reasonable?

Agree with the comments that CPoP & Goodwood are too remote for most, also I think these are a bit big to class as an "open day" and you'd lose the concentrated Ultima feel.

Perfect day for me would be..... Convoy out to a kart track, a few hrs playtime then onto an afternoon 3hr open pitlane somewhere, where we can see the cars being used as intended & tyre kick / compare everyone's cars (inc the factory's, of course).

ULTIMA OPEN DAY ALTERNATIVE SUGGESTIONS

One idea is to organize a karting arrive and drive type event purely for fun whereby all owners arrive in there Ultima vehicle where possible, with an Ultima convoy arranged on route from a fixed nearby meeting point to the karting venue followed by an Ultima convoy to an established car event afterwards where the Ultima could really create a spectacular scene on the day.
So a little like the Wilton House super car show with the 50 or so chosen ones in the parade. Don't they have an early morning meet up, a blat in the hills, short stop over to have a burst on a runway or private hill climb road or something similar, then all turn up in convoy for the Wilton Hs parade for the punters to see.

Perhaps should consider it fair to have two events, one in the north & one in the midlands / south so that more owners have an opportunity without travelling too far. Plus what is key / heart to these events is to have a display of the Factory's latest products (like at Stoneleigh) for all existing and potential customers to view.

Given the manner of cars that race at the Silverstone Classic (as a regular visitor to it since it started), I'd say that was pretty much ideal.

A club stand at silverstone classic would be central and the factory could show there cars there . With a bit of food layed on for the ones that wanna stay over there's a campsite with bands etc and a bar opposite the main entrance as well as the bands at silverstone on a night

I was thinking of going next year anyway so would be happy to support this. Just a thought that one of the best things about the open day is the opportunity to sit down have a drink and talk. Maybe you could consider an owners area with chairs etc. Also thanks for starting this topic and being positive with your ideas.

count me in for the silverstone classic brilliant idea, provided there's food upto the open day standard.
