Hire a track? Donington maybe ?

I would pay extra to get on a track.

That sounds great, I like the idea of a drive out with loads of Ultimas in convoy and heading to an established car event.
Maybe that would work better as a weekend thing and if that's a possibility, then how about a Saturday afternoon fun activity ( as you mentioned, karting or similar ) then an evening meal in hotel where we can stay and then head off in the morning to a car event.
This could bring even more cars to the gathering as it will give owners from further afield (like myself) a chance to come along and enjoy it too.

A track day would be an idea. Just need to find somewhere central in the UK I imagine.
When I came to the Open Day a couple of years ago, I discovered a track not too far from Leicester. Don't remember the name, but I think I saw the name of Colin Chapman somewhere there.

Otherwise a Tour of the Alps... No? Oh well, never mind biggrin

We have our own Dyno Dynamics 2WD dyno which, with enough planning, we could bring to a factory organised event. Last time out we took it to a "Ten of the Best" event near York, rigged up the dyno in "Shoot Out" mode under a canopy, and displayed all the Rear Wheel Horsepower readings on the big screen. The dyno was so popular we had most of the crowd watching, and I recall the organisers asking me to take a short break so they could have their crowd back to watch the Drag finals! We did this for free to help promote the clubs, and it proved extremely popular with everyone, spectators and competitors alike.

I can not imagine you would really want to take 1020 bhp around the Top Gear track, so it would give the factory a really good opportunity to safely show off the "shock and awe" of the new 1020 bhp Evo car in the raw. My dyno can handle up to 1800bhp in "Shoot Out" mode, and some might want even to stream a video feed onto Youtube.

People tell me I do seem to be getting worse in my old age, but hell you are only here once!

I keep missing the open day, hoping to make this years, but I kind of like the format idea you have,
including a few sandwiches and drinks and a place to view and interact with other like minded people around the factory and car parking area. That said if things need to change to reflect the times then great also.

As someone who has only been to 1 factory day last year I really enjoyed it. seeing the factory and all the owners and cars. Mind it was a really beautiful day which helped. Other than that I like chucknorris's idea as we always seem to run out of time when we get together and get talking. The idea of going off on the second day to a top car event in convoy also really appeals.

Sounds like a great idea making a day of it or even longer. Great for getting to know some of the PH folk. I'm looking forward to visiting the Factory open day this year as I have not been able to make it for over the last 5 years.

For other ideas the TVR Griff group organise the Griff Growl every year that is a well attended event, that includes social events, curry night & dyno rolling road, etc see this itinerary from back in 2012 for an idea:

I like the idea of a convoy drive & karting, as something a bit more interactive and different. I probably wouldn't push on into the evening or stay in a hotel, but that's just my personal view.

How about some kind of national time attack event as a place to turn up en-mass and get Richard to enter the factory Evo to show off its abilities, I myself would love to watch one of our own beating the best of the best!
If that was a Sunday event and we had also organised a Saturday fun day as well, that would then give people the choice of turning up at one or other of the days which are completely different or both if they fancy making a full weekend of it...if that makes sense

Pete.

The overnight thing would be good for those travelling a long way.

The idea of a rolling road would be good but you need to remove the rear clam to do it in an Ultima to enable strapping down in my experience.

An afternoon meeting and karting would be fun and there is a lot of sense in a hotel to allow beers and those from further away to make it a bit of a holiday.

Donnington would be a good track day venue with the museum as a distraction too. Don't know what car shows hosted there, preferably something vintage, or maybe a GT race meeting. The Factory could have a stand there too.

Having organised club trips I am aware of how the costs for having a couple of days away can quickly add up so it may be sensible to allow people to buy just the chunk they want.

Definitely a two-day event of some kind with organised overnight stop/social evening would attract more owners from afar. I like the idea of a track day too and it would be good to have some professional tuition on hand for any newbies at circuit driving, or just to improve on one's skills - perhaps in conjuction with likes of Goldtrack on the full GP circuit at Silverstone? - I'd definitely be up for that and happy to pay for it up front.... altho' I'd also be happy to go karting!

How about an event at Santapod! With a shoot out 1/4 mile competition? Also consider inviting some select competition like Ferrari's, Lamborghini's!

Could always do the open day on a Saturday and then drive over to watch gt racing on a Sunday at silverstone or Donnington with a hotel stop over or camping and a big BBQ at curcuit or do a run on the Sunday to silverstone classic with a car club stand and arrange a parade lap during the dinner break

For me as a new builder I think the open day should be at a track, this would give the factory a good opportunity to invite potential new customers where they could experience a ride in the car and talk to existing owners and builders. This would have helped me enormously when I was looking around for a project. Owners could take to the track for a fastest time of the day and I like the idea of the Dyno.

Hold it in California?
OK, that's not going to happen. But for the rest of us around the world, could you provide a live video (Merkat?) feed and a twitter feed as well? At least the rest of us could virtually participate.

I like the idea of a two day event at a circuit (with track time), also with karting, an evening meal, and a Sunday barbecue.

As already mentioned, on a circuit, the factory can give real rides to prospective customers.
It also makes it worthwhile, as a two day event for people from further afield to show up.

Where could such an event take place?
I wouldn't mind paying something for it, but I'm not sure whether others would be up for the extra cost.
