Canards - who, what, where?!
Discussion
Morning all - I've had a little search through the forum and can find varying posts about canards, but often it goes quiet with the immortal words 'PM sent' from varying members.
Can anyone shed some light on canards they have had success with and where they were sourced? I take it there are similar vehicle bumper shapes that means they almost match up to the GTR clam?
Any help greatly appreciated

Hi, it's possibly me you're looking for as i have a list of names for people that want canards and I will be getting back to making them very very shortly, so pm myself if you're interested.
For all those that have already sent me their names and especially to Dom who supplied the ones for me to copy, I'm really sorry about the delay, but since getting my canam registered I've felt that designing a roof is more of a priority over the canards as I want to be able to take the car out even if there's a chance of rain. But that's nearly done now and so I will get straight back to the canards.
Pete

I got these custom made. They are modelled on Maserati Super Trofeo design. I own the mold, these are made in dry carbon fibre. They cost me (the cannards, no the mold) like $900 AUD for the set of 4.
I am happy to let the molds to be used for production for people with my carbon guy. So I am happy to courier the molds to him if you can get a few people together if you're interested. I am not interested in selling the molds in case I smash these ones up, I am keeping it to make replacements.

At the risk of being controversial canards will have a significant effect to the d/force on the cars front end, I suspect that alex's car with the double deck and lipped set (very nice by the way) must be running a lot more rear wing to balance the aero, before jumping in on this "double decker" type does any one know where to start with aero balance?
As an aside Alex, what do yours measure from the side of the car? they look like they may be a bit on the wide side for comfort with the many width restrictions we encounter on our B roads.
ETS, Alex how are yours fitted?
AETS, Alex what is the lip size of your front splitter (valance to front edge)?

Canards don't give as much downforce as a front splitter and need less balancing.
There was an interesting piece in one of the car mags a while back where they were looking at the differences various common add ons produce - rear wing, diffuser, front splitter and canards- on an Exige cup I think. Obviously the splitter and rear wing made the biggest difference, the canards improved things marginally. I think they only ran one set though, I'll try and dig the article out.

They are wide, like 1930mm. Standard Ultima front lip. Rear wing is always on maximum downforce.
Johnny - Yeah, this is true, but I'm not racing this car competitively and it's quite stable at the moment. I just do occasional track days etc. Even over 250 it doesn't feel unstable.
I was going to have uni student CAD model the car, do CFD models on it etc, but didn't get around to it yet.

I think we need to:

(if you could 3d print a sufficiently accurate scale Ultima model, this would actually be a bad idea..)
