Planning on ordering my body later this year and I was contemplating using rivnuts to secure the body to the frame instead of the traditional standard rivets.

My thinking behind this is to make body removal a more simple process in the future should I need to access any of the difficult to reach items or should I decide to do a colour change, etc?

Has anyone tried this route or is it just a really bad idea?

The body isn't just secured with rivets, it's bonded too if you've done it right.

Whilst I imagine you 'could' do it with rivnuts, I would imagine over time they could loosen off with the invariable body flex.

In summary - do it with rivets smile

By the time you come to remove the body the rivnut/bolt combination will have corroded and will be even more difficult to remove than drilling out rivets.

Stay with rivets and bonding as they improve the structure.

Having used rivnuts as part of my engine fitment for some of the breather stuff etc i can see merit in this, but more for a race car in need of constant adjustment/replacement of bits.... rivnuts will add weight too!!!

You will also be drilling a much larger hole in the chassis, therefore weakening it.

Not a good idea in my opinion.

Thanks for all the responses on this. Looks like the consensus is to go the factory route with rivets and bonding.
