Front Splitter Advice Wanted
Discussion
Evening all. I've been considering a splitter for a while (not sure whether to make or buy one at the min, but that's another story), but the thing that always put me off is the clamshell opening.
My clam is only a few mm from the floor when it open, so there's obviously no room for a splitter. I see plenty of cars with splitters, so I'm assuming there are fixes for this. My clam is std, on std rose joint hinges with the std retaining bar on the between the clam & diagonal chassis bar.
I can't afford a lovely SS front end at the moment (money needs to go into other things on the car first!).... My thoughts are I could move the retaining bar to restrict the clam's opening as an easy fix, but has anyone else found a more elegant fix. A cantilever hinge would be awesome, if anyone has made one / knows a supplier?? Any thoughts guys?

Hi Mark
I have a front splitter which was on the car when I bought it. I believe, as Dom said, that the opening is restricted a bit. The mech that holds it open must be a bit shorter. There is one of the guys I met at Stoneleigh with a black GTR that has made a new front opening mech similar to SS and it looked extremely professional. He'd also made a fixed splinter same as SS to go with it. The splitter on my car is made from the special ply that is used for trailer bases with a carbon sheet over it. It actually looks like a Carbon splitter so I think it would be quite easy to make one cheaply.

Didn't CJulian in the US do something elegant to solve this problem?
