Has anyone hand any experience with serpentine belts jumping and shredding themselves?

The problem started when one of the NON grooved idler pulleys had a bearing failure. That was replaced.

I replaced one of the grooved idler pulley and bracket and then the FIXED tensioner pulley.

I've checked alignment with a laser level and all looks good.

It's still jumps by about 2 grooves and the shreds the belt at high RPM.

My next step is to change the grooved idler pulley and bracket back to the old one, but after that I'm not sure what to try next.

When the bearing failed it probably moved an idler or tensioner out of line. It only takes a tiny amount for the belt to 'run out'.

Not sure what belt setup you have, but one of the idlers on mine is on quite a long mount involving M12 to M10 stud between the alternator (low mount) and the crank pulley. If yours is the same I would investigate it first.

Hope this helps.

Thanks Paul.

I have checked the alignment and all looks pretty good (I had my race mechanic look to and he felt it looks not bad).

More troubleshooting last night I found that the belt doesn't seem to be sitting that deep in the grooves of the pulleys.

I changed from Goodyear to Gates belts as that what I could get.
